The National Unity Government (NUG)

 

  • According to the NUG Ministry of Defence, it was just false news that there had been a meeting between their Minister U Yi Mon and the delegation of the military junta.
  • The NUG announced on Thursday that terrible brutality had had happened because of discrimination against the Rohingya community and other ethnic groups for years.
  • The NUG Minister of Defence said that together with the alliance, they had been trying to change from guerrilla attacks to counter attacks.
  • The NUG announced that it will not recognise the junta's selection of CEC and EC members for the Myanmar Gems Business Association.

Revolutionary Activities

  • In Tamway Township in Yangon Region, a large number of junta armed forces took away a student from the SMVTI Vocational Training Institute at about 10:30 pm on Wednesday.
  • According to the Yangon People’s Strike, one of their members was arrested for initiating the well-known umbrella protest in commemoration of the 8888 Uprising. He is a freelance photographer.
  • To show support for the oppressed with 5/, 8/ and 9/ registration cards, Yangon youth marched against the military dictatorship on Thursday, wearing 5/, 8/ and 9/ T-shirts.
  • In Sagaing Region, local PDFs chased a car which had knocked down a person on the Monywa to Mandalay Road and set it on fire. Reportedly, it was a car belonging to the junta army. The driver ran away.
  • On the border of Kawlin, Kantbalu and Kyunghla, the junta army burnt Aungchantha Village again on Thursday morning. Reportedly, thousands of local people from four villages had to run away.
  • In Myitkyina in Kachin State, Kachin State Civilian Movement (KSCM) led a march on Thursday to warn of the organizations and individuals bargaining in various sectors of the revolution for the downfall of the military dictatorship.
  • The U.S Foreign Minister stated that they had been seeking other alternatives since 2017 since it was not possible for the repatriation of Rohingya people as long as the military dictatorship exist.
  • The Malaysian Minister of Foreign Affairs said that he was not satisfied with the way the ASEAN had been working on Myanmar’s issue.
  • In Yay Township in Mon State, a local PDF attacked the junta inspection gate at Yay Bridge at about 10:30 am on Thursday. Reportedly, nine members of the junta armed forces died.
  • On Thursday, a rally of anti-junta monks carried out a movement, holding signs in support of the revolution.
  • In Kawkarait Township of Kayin State, there were bomb attacks using drones on two junta army camps.
  • In Thandaung, local PDFs conducted five attacks at the junta stations from 15 to 24 August. Reportedly, 11 junta soldiers died and four others were injured.
  • In Nammatu Township of Shan State, there was a battle between the junta armed forces and Kachin Independence Army (KIA) supported by PDFs near Bawdwin Mining Project starting at 7:30 am on Thursday.
  • In Wandwin Township in Mandalay Region, the junta army arrested Ko Sit Nyein from Thafan Village on 22 August and beat him to death. They then informed the family to come and get his dead body.

Ethnic Armed Organisations

  • On Thursday, the Karenni State Consultative Council announced that the Karenni State Police Force had, in the past year, taken action on 235 criminal cases that threatened the public's security.
  • In Nammatu Township in Shan State, there was a battle between the junta armed forces and Kachin Independence Army (KIA) and a PDF near Bawdwin Mining Project from 7:30 am on Thursday.

The Military Council

  • The junta Ministry of Transportation and Communication instructed local transportation services to get full personal information of passengers in their ticket sales.
  • On Wednesday night, the military junta arrested the former British Ambassador Vicky Bowman and her husband.
  • The military junta announced that two members of the 8888 Umbrella Strike had been arrested.
  • On Wednesday, there was a second meeting between the junta peace team and the representatives of Pa O National Liberation Organization (PNLO), the Lahu Democratic Union (LDU) and the Arakan Liberation Party (ALP).
  • The junta municipal department of Yangon Region said that it would coordinate with zone committees for the smooth operation of procedures related to industrial zones for those who would like to invest in factories and electric vehicle workshops in those industrial zones.
  • The junta propaganda media claimed that the investment at Thilawa Special Economic Zone increased to around 100 million USD after the coup.

Summary on 26 August

  • The junta armed forces have been burning villages and killing civilians in the upcountry in a prejudicial way, even though the revolution still has great momentum. Unlike at the beginning of the armed revolution, local PDFs are now able to carry out operations, even in towns.
  • The US expressed their support for the ICC. It might pose another challenge for the military junta in terms of international diplomacy.
  • There were heavy battles in Kayin and Karenni in recent days. They might get heavier due to the new regional junta army officers wanting to show that they are strong.
