Spring Revolution Daily News for 26 August 2023 

The National Unity Government (NUG) 

  • In the session of the United Nations Security Council on 23 August, Myanmar’s Ambassador U Kyaw Moe Tun raised a question about how they could save the lives and property of Myanmar people. 
  • A training on basic human rights was conducted by Committee Representing Pyitaungsu Hluttaw (CRPH), Security and Defence Committee, and Ministry of Human Rights-NUG. 
  • In the meeting on Thursday, the Chairman of the NUG Central Committee on the Interim Public Administration and Union Prime Minister of the NUG stated that it is important to have the balance of military, administrative and financial sectors, mainly in the areas where the interim administration is being implemented. 
  • On Thursday, there was a meeting between Ministry of Home Affairs and Immigration-NUG and District People’s Administration. 

Revolution Activities 

  • In Sagaing Township of Sagaing Region, 5 PDF members from Htan Taw Seik Village were killed by the junta army and had their heads cut off on 19 August. Their bodies were found only on 23 August in a land clearance operation of the revolution forces. 
  • In Salingyi Township, 14 members of Pyusawti, a junta militia, were arrested on Thursday morning. Reportedly, they were caught on their way to serve as soldiers at Chinese Wan Bao Copper Mining Project. 
  • In Wetlet Township, the junta army set fire to Htan Gyi Village on Thursday afternoon. They also shot dead two people who had tried to put out the fire. 
  • On Shwebo Township, there was an attack on Pyusawti under the military junta near Myinchin Village on Thursday morning. Reportedly, one of their members was caught alive. 
  • In Yesagyo Township of Magwe Region, there was an attack on 6 Pyusawti members between Hsinchaung Village and Gwaycho Village on Friday morning. Reportedly, all of them died and 5 guns were confiscated. 
  • In Mindone Township, there was a mine attack on two junta army trucks on their way to Ywarthit Village on Thursday afternoon. Reportedly, 8 junta soldiers died and one of their vehicles was damaged. 
  • In Salin Township, the junta army set fire to Kywel-U Village on the afternoon of 18 August. Reportedly, 125 houses were burnt to ashes. 
  • In Htandabin Township of Bago Region, the junta army fired mortars on Pingyaw Village on Wednesday evening. Reportedly, two people, who had been working for the military junta, died. 
  • In Kawthaung Township of Taninthayi Region, there was a mine attack on a junta troop of 50 soldiers on their way to invade Maliwan Village on Thursday morning. Reportedly, 5 of them died. 
  • In Dawei Township, two junta investigation personnel were shot dead near Phayarme Investigation Gate in Maungmeshaung Village at about 5:00 pm on 22 August. 
  • According to military sources, a post-graduate medical student and military doctor, who had called on anti-junta movements on Facebook, was sentenced to death by a martial court. 

Ethnic Armed Organizations (EAOs) 

  • In Shardaw Township of Karenni State, Karenni Army conducted a guerrilla attack on a junta convoy on their way to support the junta army regiment Ka-Ma-Ya (519). Reportedly, a large number of junta soldiers died and many weapons were confiscated. 
  • In Kawkarait Town of Kayin State, there were local battles between the junta armed forces and a combined force of Karen National Liberation Army + PDF + White Dragon Column + White Tiger Column on 19 July, 27 July and 8 August. Reportedly, 20 junta soldiers died and many others were injured. 
  • Between Beelin Township and Thatone Township in Mon State, a combined force of the KNLA under Brigade (1) conducted a bomb attack via drone on the former Beelin Tollbooth on Thursday. 
  • In Nyaunglebin District of Bago Region, the junta army conducted air strikes via fighter jet and shot mortars on local villages on Thursday afternoon. According to Karen National Union, a civilian died and many houses were damaged. 
  • In a message to the public regarding Latkattaung, the Commander of Cobra Column claimed that the military junta was on the verge of downfall. 
  • Citing the communication team of Kachin Independence Army, People’s Spring mentioned that Brig-Gen Ko Ko Lwin of the junta regiment (33) based in Hpakant and some officers were involved in the crimes of murder and robbery in Hpakant Township of Kachin State. 

The Military Council 

  • In response to the criticism of the AMMTC leader from Japan in the 8 AMMTC + Japan Consultation Meeting, the junta Minister of Home Affairs and Immigration claimed that if Japan would like to discuss Myanmar’s politics, they could have an exclusive meeting. 
  • The military junta announced on Thursday that U Aung Myint had been appointed as Chief Judge of Kachin State. 
  • According to the junta Ministry of Construction, a temporary bridge was completed on Myawaddy-Kawkarait Asia Road Section where the landslide had occurred. So, the travel was allowed again on Thursday evening. 
  • According to the junta Union Election Commission, respective ministries and Township Election Commissions have been reviewing the number of members reported by the political parties and the real condition on the ground. 
  • According to the junta Myanmar Port Authority, it is likely to have a special tide at the height of over 20 feet above the basic waterline in Yangon River. 
  • The junta Trade Promotion Team stated that Bangladesh had made an offer to purchase rice again via G to G Program. 
  • According to Myanmar Rice Federation, they got started with the sale of rice for 2500MMK for 8 tincups through 42 shops in the wards and markets of 17 townships in Yangon Region. 
  • In the ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Crimes across the border in Indonesia, the junta Minister of Home Affairs and Immigration stated that various armed groups or so-called PDFs had been carrying out violence in Myanmar. 

Summary on 26 August 

  • In Sagaing Region with powerful revolution, the military junta has been ruthlessly killing the members of revolution forces to stimulate fear among the public. 
  • With prejudice, the military junta has placed harsh oppression even with the death sentence for anti-junta posts.
