Spring Revolution Daily News for 26 March 2023 

The National Unity Government (NUG) 

  • In an interview with the PVTV, the Deputy Minister of Education-NUG stated that education is fully ensured for the future at the schools opened by the NUG and pro-revolution people. She added that over 700,000 students have been joining those schools according to the lists of attendance. 
  • At 9:00 am Friday, there was a meeting (12/2023) between the NUG Central Committee on the Interim Public Administration and Local People’s Administration from Sagaing Region and Magwe Region. 
  • From 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Sunday, there will be a discussion No. (2) in commemoration of the two-year anniversary of the guarantees and commitments contained in Federal Democracy Charter. 

Revolution Activities 

  • In Kawkarait Township and Myawaddy Township of Kayin State, there have been battles starting from Saturday morning. Consequently, Myawaddy-Mae Sot Friendship Bridge No. (1) was closed and so were all the other illegal trade routes. 
  • In Oatpho Township of Bago Region, there was a mine attack on the junta army. Reportedly, 10 junta soldiers died. 
  • In Kani Township of Sagaing Region, there was an anti-junta music concert in a local village on Saturday. 
  • On Saturday morning, a rally of Yinmabin North marched for the downfall of the military dictatorship. 
  • In Monywa, there was an attack with mortars on the junta army stationed in Aung Zayya Ward. Reportedly, 2 junta soldiers died. 
  • In Kantbalu District, the junta armed forces have been setting fire to local villages and killing people since Thursday on their way out from Khin-U Township. Consequently, the public from no less than 8 villages have had to run away. 
  • In Myinmu, there was a bomb attack on the junta army at the Myanmar’s Economic Bank. Reportedly, there might have been casualties in the incident. 
  • In the south of Butalin, the junta army set fire to Sonegone Village at about 8:00 am Saturday. 
  • In Tamu Township, there were local battles for two consecutive days. Reportedly, the junta armed forces had a great loss and one of their police stations was captured. On the other hand, 3 PDF members lost their lives and 4 others were injured. 
  • The US State Department stated that there were sanctions on 6 companies and 2 cronies buying aviation oil for the junta’s fighter jets. 

Ethnic Armed Organizations 

  • In Dimawso Township of Karenni State, over 90 junta soldiers died and a large number of weapons were confiscated in local battles from 20 to 23 March. 
  • In Kawkarait Township and Myawaddy Township of Kayin State, there have been fighting between the junta armed forces and a combined force of the KNLA and the PDF since Saturday morning. Reportedly, the police station in Kyonedoe was set on fire. 
  • The White Tiger Column released an emergency statement that the public are not to travel in Myawaddy, Kawkarait and Kyonedoe due to the military chaos. 
  • There were battles on the four sections of Kawkarait-Myawaddy Road. Reportedly, no less than 20 junta soldiers were caught and a large number of weapons were confiscated. 
  • In Thatone District under the control of the Karen National Union (KNU) Brigade (1), a combined force of the KNLA and the PDF attacked the camp of Lesawlaw Border Guard Force (BGF). Reportedly, 6 BGF members died and weapons were confiscated. 

The Military Council 

  • The junta army arrested a psychiatrist from Mandalay General Hospital and sued him under the anti-terrorism law. 
  • According to the Land Transportation Department, an embossed plate will cost only 9000 MMK if the owner of the vehicle comes in person for it. 
  • The UNESCO accepted the initial proposal for the Songkran Festival of Thailand to be listed on World Heritages. Afterwards, the junta Ministry of Religious Affairs and Culture stated that they have been arranging for Myanmar Thingyan Festival to be summited to UNESCO. 
  • According to the junta propaganda, there was a dress-up rehearsal of the junta army troops for their military performance on the 78th Army’s Day on 27 March. 
  • On Thursday, the junta Minister of Foreign Affairs received Chinese Ambassador to Myanmar at the ministry hall. 

Summary on 25 March 

  • In recent battles in Karenni State, the junta armed forces have had a great loss. They have been in the position of losing the whole regiment. On the other hand, Karenni Revolution Forces stated that such defensive battles would soon turn into offensive ones. Consequently, there might be heavier fighting in the area. 
  • In Kayin, there have been local battles all over the state. Reportedly, the military junta has had a great loss there. In such a situation, the junta soldiers tend to shoot at civilians deliberately and burn villages. So, local people have to beware of it.
