The National Unity Government (NUG)

  • Global Fundraisers Group (GFG), comprising Myanmar people in the international community, promised that via the NUG, they would buy mortars for the force led by Bo Nagar or Captain Dragon.
  • Citing the words of U Yi Mon, Union Minister of Defence-NUG, PVTV stated that the junta armed forces had been burning villages as they could not beat the PDFs in ground battles.
  • Acting President of the NUG called on the international community to stand for the truth and expressed thanks to the leaders of some ASEAN countries for doing so.
  • Union Prime Minister Man Win Khine Than said words of congratulations to the collective effort of Myanmar people from local and international community, international organizations helping with democratic affairs in Myanmar and Ministries of the NUG, especially economic ones, for blocking off one of the main financial sources of the military junta.
  • The NUG announced that despite various prohibitions of the military junta for humanitarian assistance, the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Risks Management had managed to provide assistance worth of 212.26 million MMK to the public in December 2021.
  • According to Ministry of Economics and Commerce, the NUG blacklisted nine businesses and weapon dealers helping the military junta with procurement of weapons. They also stated that trading products of those people was like supporting violence and war crimes.
  • On Wednesday, there was an event on completion of basic military training Batch (6) organized by Yaw Defence Force (YDF) Regiment (10) in Magwe Region. Reportedly, U Yi Mon, Minister of Defence-NUG, sent a statement there.

Revolution Activities

  • The junta army has been threatening shopkeepers of markets all over the country that they would take action against those who close their shops in the nationwide silent strike on 1st February. Reportedly, they collected personal information of shop owners.
  • On Wednesday, a combined rally of Yinmabin marched against the military dictatorship.
  • As a 353-day protest, Kalay people marched against the military dictatorship on Wednesday and saluted the heroes who had lost their lives in battles in Chin State.
  • In Khin-U Township of Sagaing Region, the junta armed forces raided and set fire to villages such as Thayetkan, Pauktaw, Paygone, Kangyigone and Min on Tuesday and Wednesday. Reportedly, they also shot dead no less than seven local people.
  • According to CDM Captain Kaung Thu Win, soldiers from the junta armed forces had to fight in their native places and against relatives as the military junta did not inform them about military operation areas.
  • In Khin-U Township, a combined force of local PDFs conducted an attack on the junta army camp in Magyitone village at about 2:00 pm Tuesday. Reportedly, there were casualties among junta soldiers and Pyusawti members.
  • In a village of Shwebo Township, there was a march against the military dictatorship on Wednesday morning.
  • In Longlone Township of Taninthayi Region, Basic Education Students’ Union led a dawn protest against the military dictatorship on Wednesday, holding anti-junta signs.
  • At about 1:00 am Wednesday, a military convoy to Myeik, including oil trucks, was attacked by Pulaw PDF. Reportedly, two junta soldiers died.
  • In Kyungsu Township, the junta court placed a warrant at the house of local NLD Chair.
  • In Yebyu Township, the local administration made announcements on Tuesday night that the townspeople were not to take part in the Silent Strike on 1st February, the one-year anniversary of the military coup.
  • In Kawthaung Township, allegedly a leader of the junta people’s army in Maryam village was shot dead at about 6:00 pm Monday in his rubber plantation.
  • In addition to burning oil wells in townships of Magwe Region, the junta armed forces killed some workers on Monday and took away some women.
  • In Phakant of Kachin State, there was a march in support of the KIA, PDF and the NUG on Wednesday. They also showed their disapproval of the military dictatorship.
  • In Mandalay, hundred-household leaders, a husband and wife, were shot on Wednesday morning. Reportedly, the wife died on the spot.
  • In Thapaitgyin Township, allegedly a junta informer in Chaunggyi village was shot dead at about 9:00 pm Tuesday.
  • In Tamway Township of Yangon Region, the power was cut out to the houses without payment of electricity bills in Myitta Nyunt Ward, starting from Wednesday morning.
  • In Phalan of Chin State, the junta army arrested seven female CDM staff members on Tuesday evening.

Ethnic Armed Organizations

  • According to the spokesperson of AA, they were in cooperation with the military junta for COVID-19 vaccination in five townships of Rakhine State due to the global pandemic prevention movement.
  • According to the statement by KIO, China, a neighbouring country, has been putting pressure to stop battles in border areas due to their Olympic sports events and regional stability must be taken into consideration.
  • On Wednesday, KIO announced that current hardships could be overcome and they would join hands with all organizations working for the emergence of a federal democratic nation.
  • In Phapun District under control of the KNU Regiment (5), there was a fighting between KNLA and the junta army on Monday. According to Mutraw Newsletter, 11 junta soldiers died and at least one other was injured.
  • On Wednesday, CJDC - a combined force of local CDFs in Chin State - announced that 1029 junta soldiers had died in battles within nine months.

The Military Council

  • According to local residents, the military junta has been collecting the list of former soldiers in states and regions in a secret way and doing activities to form junta armed groups.
  • The military junta announced that serious action would be taken against those who write about the 1st February silent strike on social media.
  • The second junta leader Soe Win said that the 75th Union Day celebration would include the event of carrying Union Flag from Yangon City Hall to Nay Pyi Taw, which had been suspended since 2016.
  • On Tuesday, the military junta opened a lawsuit against U Min Thu, former Union Minister of Union Government Office, under Section (55) of anti-corruption law.
  • The junta market supervisors announced that if shopkeepers in municipal markets throughout the country take part in a silent strike on 1st February, their sales permit would be revoked.

Summary on 26 January

  • The military junta has been afraid of silent strike by the public. They have been arranging to imprison those who call for participation in the silent strike on social media. They did so to some people to frighten the public.
  • They also threatened shopkeepers of the markets that legal action would be taken, in addition to cancellation of the sales permit for good, against those who fail to open shops on 1st February.
  • China has been putting pressure on armed forces in Myanmar, including the junta army, not to fight on Myanmar borders as they are holding Olympic sports competitions. Consequently, there might be a suspension of battles in Shan North.
  • In Sagaing, guerrilla revolution gained great momentum and so did public protests against the military dictatorship. As for Chin, Kayin and Karenni, they still had battles against the junta armed forces and both sides lost members. In Karenni State, Karenni forces had to retreat up to Dimawso in their surprise attack in Loikaw. As revolution forces face hardship related to weapons, the public needs to provide support, including fund-raising.
  • In Yangon and Mandalay, there were still activities of guerrilla revolution and protests. In Taninthayi Region, the armed revolution got started as the military junta conducted more and more arrests.
