The National Unity Government (NUG)

  • In Khin-U Township in Sagaing Region, the judiciary office under the NUG Ministry of Judiciary Affairs was opened on Tuesday.
  • In a statement on Indian National Day on Thursday, the NUG Minister of Foreign Affairs said that they hoped the light of democracy in India would also shed a light on Myanmar people fighting against the military dictatorship.
  • In the special meeting in New York on Monday, U Kyaw Moe Tun, Myanmar’s Representative to the United Nations (UN), called on the UN to uphold the principles of the R2P and take immediate action against Myanmar’s Army.
  • The NUG announced that it would allow gem mining in Mogok and would give people the right to mine a piece of land for 10 years for $200,000 USD.
  • In Administrative Area (5) of Khin-U Township in Sagaing Region, there was a face-to-face meeting between members of the local public’s administration, local defence forces and their allies on Wednesday.
  • On Wednesday, there was an online event to celebrate the one-year anniversary of the Monywa Youth Organisation. Present on the occasion were the Union Minister of Health and Education, members of strike committees and members of students’ unions.
  • On Tuesday, there was an event to celebrate the completion of the training by Black Leopard Column under the NUG Ministry of Defence. Reportedly, there was a military performance and weapons were provided to the soldiers.
  • Somewhere in the area controlled by Karen National Union (KNU) Brigade (6), there was an accident when testing an RPG produced by Black Leopard Column. Reportedly, one of their members was killed.
  • The Chairs of the German Upper House and Lower House sent a letter to the Committee Representing Pyitaungsu Hluttaw (CRPH) stating that they stand strongly together with the CRPH, and wished for the quickest restoration of the rule of law and freedoms in Myanmar.
  • On Wednesday, Pakkoku Township PDF announced that members of the public should avoid associating or travelling with members of the junta armed forces, junta personnel and junta administrators.

Revolutionary Activities

  • In Yinmabin North in Sagaing Region, a combined rally of local people marched for the downfall of the military dictatorship on Thursday.
  • In Khin-U Township, a combined rally of local public administrators, local defence forces, people from the educational sector and local people marched against the military dictatorship on Thursday.
  • On Thursday, Taze Township General Strike marched for the end of the military dictatorship, raising the banners for the revolution.
  • In Shwebo Township, there was an attack on a Pyu Saw Htee camp in Myinsi Village on Wednesday night. Reportedly, no less than 10 Pyu Saw Htee members died.
  • In Khin-U Township, there were attacks on junta armed forces at 11:30 am on Wednesday. Reportedly, five junta soldiers died.
  • In Chaung-U Township, there was fighting between the junta army and local PDFs near Shantu Village on Wednesday morning.
  • In Shwebo Township, there was a bomb attack via drone on the wedding reception of a junta policeman and the niece of a local Pyu Saw Htee leader in Zee Phyu Gon Village on Wednesday. Reportedly, four junta soldiers died.
  • In Wetlet, there were rocket attacks on a local police station and the wards of former soldiers on Tuesday afternoon. Reportedly, two junta police officers died.
  • In Wetlet Township, the junta armed forces set fire to three villages on 23, 24 and 25 January. Reportedly, more than 60 houses were burnt to ashes.
  • In Yinmabin North, the junta army set fire to Mya Yait Village at about 11:00 am on Wednesday.
  • In Ye-U Township and Dibeyin Township, the junta armed forces have been invading the area. As a result, over 9,000 people have had to flee.
  • On Wednesday, the Octopus Youth Organization based in Yangon called on digital marketers, content writers, motion graphic designers and video editors to help with revolutionary campaigns.
  • In Pauk Township in Magwe Region, the junta armed forces set fire to five villages on two consecutive days. Reportedly, 77 houses were burnt to ashes.
  • In Maha Aungmye Township in Mandalay Region, there was a mine attack on junta soldiers who were taking security measures at Yadanabone Hall, owned by the military junta, at about 8:00 pm on Wednesday. Reportedly, two junta soldiers died.
  • In Kawthaung in Tanintharyi Region, the junta administrator of Aye Yaik Nyein Ward and his wife were shot on Wednesday night.
  • In Beelin Township in Mon State, the junta armed forces fired heavy artillery into Shwe Yaungpya Village and Kalaught-In Village on Tuesday night.
  • In Kawkareik Township in Kayin State, the junta army set fire to Nyaung Yaittha Village on Thursday morning.
  • In Demoso Township in Karenni State, there has been heavy fighting in the eastern area causing IDPs in the area to quickly move elsewhere.
  • According to a member of the Board of Directors of Fortify Rights, a lawsuit was started in Germany against Myanmar junta army officers, including Min Aung Hlaing and Soe Win, for their genocide, war crimes and crimes against humanity. Reportedly, INTERPOL arrest warrants will be issued for them if germany accepts the case.
  • A consultant from the US Foreign Department said that it was crucial to hold the Myanmar’s junta army accountable for its terrible crimes.
  • The AAC Alliance, an organisation helping Myanmar workers in Thailand, provided three 308 sniper guns worth a million baht to Scorpion Column in the Southern Military Region.
  • Justice for Myanmar announced a list of over 60 international governments and organizations who support the Myanmar military junta.

Ethnic Armed Organisations

  • In Hpakant Township in Kachin State, a combined force of the KIA and PDFs attacked two junta army camps on Thursday morning. Reportedly, there were casualties among junta soldiers and weapons were confiscated.
  • In Hakha Township in Chin State, there was a guerrilla attack on two junta soldiers taking rice back to their comrades on Wednesday. Reportedly, both of them died and a gun was confiscated.
  • On Wednesday, the Chin National Front (CNF) said that the military junta has been trying to show that it is a legitimate government. The CNF also claimed that it would overturn the military dictatorship.

The Military Council

  • On Wednesday, there was a meeting for the second day between the junta peace team and a delegation from the Restoration Council of Shan State (RCSS) led by General Yawd Serk. Reportedly, they discussed the 33 principles of the policy on Shan State submitted by the RCSS as well as the consensus on peace and development.
  • According to the junta Yangon Regional Investment Committee, it approved nine foreign investments and a local investment at their meeting on Wednesday.
  • On Wednesday, there was a meeting at the junta Ministry of Education in Naypyitaw for students completing Grade (9) who want to join high schools where they can learn subjects related to industry, agriculture and raising livestock in the 2023-24 academic year.
  • The military junta announced that a combined force from KNDO Brigade (6) and PDFs had set fire to the village administration office and a house in Kanni Village and arrested the village administrator, in Kawkareik Township in Kayin State, on Tuesday.
  • On Wednesday morning, there was a rocket attack on a car of pilgrims going to Kyaiktiyo Pagoda. Reportedly, a man died and seven other pilgrims were injured.

Summary on 27 January

  • Ambassador U Kyaw Moe Tun called for the upholding of the R2P principles and for action to be taken against the military junta led by Min Aung Hlaing for its countrywide violent activities. He said that the international community needs to do something.
  • In Karenni State and Sagaing Region there has been heavy fighting and thousands of local people have had to run away from the danger of the junta air force and heavy artillery.
