Spring Revolution Daily News for 27 May 2023 

The National Unity Government (NUG) 

  • Minister of International Cooperation-NUG claimed that the victory of Move Forward Party in the election of Thailand brought a good change for Myanmar’s democracy. 
  • At 3:00 pm Thursday, there was a meeting between Ministry of Home Affairs and Immigration-NUG and District People’s Administration. 
  • Union Prime Minister of the NUG stated that the military junta had set restrictions on telecommunication and internet connectivity since the coup. 
  • Dr. Zaw Wai Soe and U Htin Linn Aung, the Union Ministers of the NUG, went to California’s State Assembly in the United States. 

Revolution Activities 

  • In Yesagyo Township of Magwe Region, the junta army fired mortars into Mibayar Village. Reportedly, a woman lost her life and a child aged 12 was injured. 
  • In Thandaung Township of Kayin State, there were attacks using mortars on the junta stations. Reportedly, 7 junta members died and 2 detainees escaped. 
  • In Banmauk Township of Sagaing Region, the junta army conducted an aerial bombing on Naungkan Village. Reportedly, 2 people lost their lives and 6 houses were damaged. 
  • In Wetlet Township, there was an attack on the junta army between Pinzin Village and Magyitone Village. Reportedly, no less than 3 junta soldiers died. 
  • In Salingyi Township, there was an attack on the junta police gate of Wanbao Copper Mining. Reportedly, 3 junta policemen died. 
  • On Friday morning, a rally of Yinmabin North marched against the military dictatorship. 
  • In Indaw Township, there had been heavy fighting from 22 to 25 May. Reportedly, an old woman lost her life in a junta air attack and 4 buildings including a monastery were damaged. 
  • As an 800-day protest, a combined rally of local villages from Salingyi and Yinmabin marched for the end of the military dictatorship on Friday. 
  • In the north of Kalay Township, the military junta appointed their own administrator for Sakangyi Village and forced him to form Pyusawti Militia. 
  • In Pale Township, the MRDA shot mortars to Zee Phyu Gone Village of Pyusawti Militia at about 11:00 am on 21 May. 
  • In Myingyan Township of Mandalay Region, the junta army burnt Magyisu Village. Afterwards, they were faced with a mine attack. Reportedly, about 10 junta soldiers died. 
  • On Thursday night, a drone was flying over Mandalay. As the junta army tried to open fire at it, the city was noisy with gunshots. 
  • In Longlone of Taninthayi Region, there were simultaneous attacks on the junta immigration office, military security office and police station. Reportedly, Thein Win Latt, non-CDM immigration officer, died. 
  • In His Sai Township and Pin Laung Township of Shan South, there are more than 16,400 displaced people. Reportedly, they have run out of rations. 
  • Indigenous Media stated that there still had been problems in sending aid to the victims of the Cyclone Mocha in Rakhine State even 10 days after the disaster. 
  • In Sanchaung Township of Yangon Region, the junta members in plain clothes arrested 15 young people door to door in Wailuwun North Ward on Thursday. 

Ethnic Armed Organizations 

  • The KNLA conducted guerrilla attacks on junta army camps. Reportedly, 4 junta soldiers died. On the other hand, a civilian lost their life as the junta army fired mortars in response. 
  • In Moemait Township of Shan North, the ABSDF attacked the junta camp in Kyaukmaw Village. Reportedly, some junta policemen died and weapons were confiscated. 
  • In Gantgaw Township of Magwe Region, the ABSDF conducted an attack via mortars on Taungkhin Yan Police Station. Reportedly, 3 junta members died. 
  • In Mu Township under the KNU Brigade (3), the junta army carried out two bomb attacks via drone on Yan Myo Aung Village. Reportedly, a house was damaged and over 100 people had to run away. 
  • In Banmauk Township of Sagaing Region, the junta Shanni National Army took away the goods from Kuseik Market and burnt the stalls. 
  • On Thursday, the ZFU People’s Defence Force Zoland strongly condemned the case in which the junta army had killed two people on their way to Hakha in Chin State to renew passports. 

The Military Council 

  • In Ponnagyun Township of Rakhine State, the military junta provided 2 tin cups of rice per victim of the Cyclone Mocha. Reportedly, most people did not take it. 
  • In Hpakant Township of Kachin State, the junta army raided U Yu Kha Guesthouse at about 4:00 am Thursday. They then arrested 5 men. 
  • On Thursday, a junta delegation arrived in Bangladesh to carry out a pilot project of accepting 1,200 Rohingya refugees out of a million. 
  • According to the junta Central Bank, rumour has it that there are restrictions on cash withdrawal from banks. 
  • The junta Minister of Planning and Finance called on China to reduce trade barriers for Myanmar’s exports to China. 
  • There was a discussion between the military junta and Thailand to investigate, identify, arrest and transfer criminals who have run away from Thailand. 
  • According to the junta propaganda leader, over 2400 basic education schools would be opened on 1 June. 

Summary on 26 May 

  • Throughout the country, the number of displaced people has been on the rise due to violent activities of the junta army. Reportedly, they have been badly in need of daily basic needs. 
  • The military junta has not allowed yet the entry of the international organizations including the United Nations into the areas hit by the Cyclone Mocha. In addition, they themselves have not been able to provide assistance effectively. Consequently, the public have been faced with hardships.
