Spring Revolution Daily News for 28 May 2023 

The National Unity Government (NUG) 

  • The NUG expressed thanks to the United States which would provide humanitarian aid worth nearly 17 million USD to the victims of the Cyclone Mocha in Myanmar. 
  • Ministry of Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Risks Management-NUG announced that they provided tarpaulins and financial support to the households whose houses had been damaged by Cyclone Mocha. 
  • In the monthly summary of battles and casualties in No. (1) military region, Ministry of Defence-NUG stated that there had been 437 battles in March 2023, killing 612 enemies and leaving 700 others injured. 

Revolution Activities 

  • On 24 May, Mandalay-based Yatkha Nyinaung PDF provided other defence forces with 9mm guns produced on their own. 
  • On Friday, Myanmar people in Netherlands expressed their desire for action against Myanmar’s military junta in front of the Foreign Ministry of Nethalands and the International Court of Justice. 
  • In Kyankhine Township of Ayeyarwady Region, a local rally conducted an anti-junta movement on Friday afternoon. 
  • Ma Hmoo Yadanar Khet Moe Moe Tun, a former journalist at Myanmar Pressphoto Agency, was sentenced to another 10 years in prison at Thingangyun District Court on Friday. 
  • In Mobye of Shan South, 2 local people lost lives and public’s houses were damaged due to the junta’s aerial bombing. 
  • On Friday, Nyan Lam Thit Research Team announced that the military junta had committed at least 147 cases of massacre, in which more than 5 people were killed simultaneously, since the coup in 2021. 
  • In Sagaing Region, Taze Township General Strike marched against the military dictatorship on Saturday. 
  • In Shwebo Township, the S&C donated solar power stations to two schools of the IDPs on 24 and 26 May. 
  • On Saturday morning, a rally of Yinmabin North marched for the downfall of the military dictatorship. 
  • At about 6:00 pm Friday, Soe Mi, the administrator of Dagundine Village, was shot dead by unknown gunmen. 
  • In Mindat of Chin State, No. (13) Gantgaw District PDF attacked with projectiles the junta station (274), the police station and the inspection gate on Kanpetlet Divergent Point. 
  • In Yesagyo Township of Magwe Region, the junta army set fire to Myaydaw Village on Saturday morning. 
  • In Yay Township of Mon State, an alliance of defence forces conducted an attack using projectiles and drone bombs on the junta army Regiment (583). 

Ethnic Armed Organizations 

  • In the area under Karen National Union Regiment (6), the junta army fired heavy artillery, injuring two people and domesticated animals. 
  • In Hpakant of Kachin State, the military junta arrested an officer of Kachin Independence Organization and his family together with a large number of crude jade. 
  • The junta army shot dead a member of Shan State Progressive Party/ Shan State Army and arrested 3 others. 
  • In His Sai Township of Shan South, the Pa-O National Organization arrested 10 men including 3 young drug users under 18 in Wanmai Village. Reportedly, they have been demanding money for the release of the victims. 

The Military Council 

  • The military junta announced that 75% of the schools in Rakhine State would be opened on 1 June and the remaining ones in the third week of the month. 
  • In the coordination meeting in Nay Pyi Taw on Friday, the second junta leader Soe Win claimed that there would be serious legal action against illegal trade not only under the customs law but also under other related laws. 
  • The military junta and the responsible personnel of Bangladesh have been carrying out activities to promote their cooperation on border security and prohibit illegal entry across the border. 
  • The junta leader Min Aung Hlaing, who has been unlawfully arresting and killing professionals, talked about the nurture of experts on environmental science and opening undergraduate courses. 
  • The junta leader instructed the junta Ministry of Culture to review the historical records to keep miniature artifacts in the rooms and halls of Mandalay Royal Palace. 
  • In Monywa of Sagaing Region, the military junta has been inspecting private clinics. 
  • On Thursday evening, the junta police destroyed the office of National League for Democracy in Butalin of Sagaing Region. 

Summary on 27 May 

  • The junta soldiers, police, Pyusawti members and nationalists have been destroying the offices of the NLD on purpose. It shows their jealousy for the party. 
  • In Sagaing and Magwe, the junta armed forces led by Min Aung Hlaing have been burning local villages. Besides, they have been killing the elderly who cannot run away.
