The National Unity Government (NUG)

 

  • The NUG Minister of Defence warned on Thursday that not only the junta leaders but also those who had been involved in the aerial bombing on A Nang Pa Village of Hpakant in Kachin State must be held accountable.
  • U Yi Mon, the NUG Union Minister of Defence said that they had evidence of junta soldiers, from grass-roots to officer level, having to use drugs to become bold enough for frontline battles.
  • At the United Nations General Assembly, Myanmar’s Ambassador U Kyaw Moe Tun stated that he would like to know the best way to call on the international community, including the UN Security Council and the ASEAN, to save Myanmar people.
  • At 10:00 am on Wednesday, there was a meeting between the NUG Ministry of Home Affairs and Immigration and township public administration teams from Sagaing Region and Magwe Region.

Revolutionary Activities

  • In Tokyo in Japan, the friends and supporters of Toru Kubota, the Japanese documentary filmmaker arrested by the military junta, conducted a press conference for his release.
  • At the United Nations General Assembly, Noeleen Heyzer, the Special Envoy of the UN Secretary-General to Myanmar, stated that according to the reality of the political situation, the general public in Myanmar no longer accepts military rule.
  • In Jakarta in Indonesia, ASEAN Foreign Ministers would conduct an emergency meeting about Myanmar’s affairs.
  • In front of the junta’s Myanmar Embassy in Tokyo of Japan, Myanmar people strongly condemned the junta’s air strike which caused a large number of casualties among Kachin people in A Nang Pa of Kachin State.
  • According to the Special Task Agency of Burma (STA), it felt deeply sorry for the people who had lost lives due to the gunfire of the junta army in response to their attack targeting the officer in chief of Insein Prison and they would be accountable for their action after the revolution.
  • In Yay Township in Mon State, local PDFs attacked the junta inspection gates in the old village of Kyonelong and Yay Bridge at 10:30 am on Thursday.
  • In Sagaing Region, a rally of the Basic Education Students’ Union protested against the military dictatorship in Yinmabin and Salingyi on Thursday.
  • In Myaung, there was an attack on the junta armed forces in charge of security at Myanmar’s Economic Bank. Reportedly, four junta soldiers died.
  • In Salingyi, students unions called for participation in a light turning-off strike in memory of those who lost their lives in Hpakant.
  • On Thursday, a combined rally of local villagers from Salingyi and Yinmabin marched against the military dictatorship.
  • In Ayadaw Township, protesters in Kachin outfits marched against the military dictatorship on Thursday, raising anti-junta banners and Kachin flags.
  • In Sagaing Township, the junta army raided three local villages and shot at those who ran away. Consequently, a person died and 11 others were seriously injured.
  • In Yebyu Township in Tanintharyi Region, Longlone PDF assassinated four Pyu Saw Htee members in one night.
  • In Ngazun Township in Mandalay Region on Thursday afternoon, there was a mine attack on the junta army because of their way of demanding money from casinos and liquor shops. Reportedly, three junta soldiers died on the spot.
  • To resolve the crisis of the military dictatorship in Myanmar, the ASEAN Foreign Ministers started their meeting on Thursday. At that time, the US called on the association to put serious pressure on the military junta in Myanmar.

Ethnic Armed Organisations

  • In the area under Karen National Union- KNU Brigade (5), there have been battles between the KNLA and the junta armed forces on a daily basis. According to the Mutraw Newsletter, junta soldiers have been shooting mortars deliberately at local villages.
  • The Kawthoolei Army announced on Wednesday that without their permission, no one was to use the Kawkarait-Myawaddy Asia Road in Kayin State.

The Military Council

  • In Nattalin Township in Bago Region, U Wirathu, a religious extremist monk, held a Dhama talk at the Kataing Festival in Hsinthaygone Village on Thursday. It was his very first talk since the military coup. Reportedly, the junta police fired five gunshots to celebrate.
  • In the north of Rakhine State, the military junta has indefinitely blocked off land and waterway routes of travel. As a result students, who have taken distance education exams at Sittwe University, have had difficulty returning home.
  • According to the junta propaganda media, the baby white elephant, which had been found in Taungkok in Rakhine State, arrived at Naypyidaw on Thursday.
  • The junta Education Minister said that the courses for Grade (12) from KG+Grade 12 System will start in the upcoming academic year.
  • The second junta leader Soe Win said that they had been carrying out four activities for the establishment of army units and the retention of junta armed forces.
  • The military junta has been arranging to reopen courses at universities and colleges. Reportedly, registrations can be made at the educational establishments.
  • At 1:00 pm on Wednesday, U Hla Thein and U Myint Naing, the Chair and a member of the Union Election Commission respectively in the NLD government’s administration, were released from Yamethin Prison.

Summary on 28 October

  • The meeting of ASEAN Foreign Ministers started. Reportedly, there will be discussions about the NUG joining future meetings and the ASEAN 5-Point Consensus will also be reviewed. It’s to be seen whether the activities of the association will be effective enough to take action against the military junta.
  • In the junta air strike on the KIO music concert, over 80 people were killed and over 100 others were injured. As the military junta blocked off transport routes the injured could not access medical treatment. For such inhumane actions, the international community expressed strong condemnation. Consequently, the military junta might have to face more pressure.
