The National Unity Government (NUG)

  • The third day of the 5th Union Parliament continued. Reportedly, present on the occasion were the MPs and NUG members.
  • In London in the United Kingdom, there was a protest on the second anniversary of Myanmar’s Spring Revolution at Trafalgar Square. Reportedly, it was joined by NUG Union Ministers.
  • At 10:00 am on Tuesday, there was a meeting between the People’s Police Force under the NUG Ministry of Home Affairs and Immigration and the People’s Security Forces from Sagaing Region and Magwe Region.
  • On Wednesday, there was a meeting between the NUG and a team from the French Lower House including the Chair of the France-Myanmar Friendly Association.
  • In Southern Military Region on Wednesday, the Commander of Dawna Column assigned responsibilities to the members and equipped them with weapons.
  • The NUG announced that all the CDM staff will be promoted after the revolution and they will also be awarded with prestigious titles. Besides, those with daily wages will be promoted and become permanent staff starting from the second anniversary of the coup.
  • According to the NUG Ministry of Education, students with online applications can take the basic education exam from 2 February until 30 April. As for those on the ground, they can sit their exams on the dates fixed by their respective townships.

Revolutionary Activities

  • In Hommalin Township in Sagaing Region, an alliance of PDFs took control of Shwe Pyi Aye Town on Wednesday.
  • In Shwebo Township, the junta army set fire to 53 houses in Thayetpinwun Village and arrested a local man named U Pho Se.
  • In Khin-U Township, the junta army set fire to Nyaungbingyisu Village on Wednesday morning. They also randomly fired heavy artillery. Consequently, thousands of local people had to flee.
  • On Thursday, a combined rally of villagers from Salingyi and Yinmabin marched for the end of the military dictatorship.
  • Even amidst a lack of security in Kani Township, a powerful rally of local people, led by the Spring Revolution Force, protested against the military dictatorship.
  • In Hommalin Township, there was a protest against the military dictatorship, chanting slogans against the junta’s election.
  • In Yinmabin North, there was a march for the downfall of the military dictatorship on Thursday.
  • On Thursday afternoon, a junta army troop invaded Ye-U Township. Reportedly, they set fire to over 500 houses in three villages in Khin-U Township.
  • In Madayar Township in Mandalay Region, there was a bomb attack from a drone on the junta army near Hintha Village. Reportedly, six junta soldiers died.
  • In Kachin State, a rally of people from Hpakant marched against the military dictatorship on Thursday. They also showed their support for the KIA, PDF and NUG.
  • On the two-year anniversary of the military coup, there was a movement calling for Myanmar through the sliding flashes on the walls of the United Nations Office in New York.
  • On the second anniversary of the coup anti-junta protesters projected images onto the walls of the United Nations Office in New York.
  • In a liberated area of Tanintharyi Township, a combined rally of local people and PDFs expressed their disapproval of the military dictatorship on Thursday.
  • In Kawthaung Township of Tanintharyi Region, San Tin, the second Pyu Saw Htee leader in the area, was shot dead. Two M-16 rifles were confiscated together with other weapons.
  • Somewhere in Magwe Region, members of the Basic Education Students’ Union expressed their objection to the military dictatorship.
  • In Paung Township in Mon State, Ko Ko Lay, the junta township administrator and a USDP candidate was shot dead.
  • The President of Indonesia; the Chair of the ASEAN, stated that they had been arranging to send a top military officer to discuss Myanmar’s affairs.

Ethnic Armed Organisations

  • Karen National Union (KNU) Brigade (4) announced that revolutionary forces and PDFs were to separate from Kawthoolei Army (KTLA) led by Captain Saw El Kwi. After that, there were exchanges of fire on Wednesday.
  • In Myawaddy in Kayin State, a total of 11 prisoners of war, who had been caught in the attack on the junta’s Wawlay Police Station, were released by the White Elephant Column and the KTLA in commemoration of Karen Revolution Day on Tuesday.

The Military Council

  • According to the junta propaganda media, the USDP applied to register the party.
  • Min Aung Hlaing admitted that among 330 townships in Myanmar, security measures could only be taken in 198 townships and it was necessary to tighten security for the others that are out of control.
  • According to the Mandalay Regional Industrial Supervision and Monitoring Department, it checked for the safety of electrical safety at more than 8,000 factories and workshops in the area for the current fiscal year.
  • The military junta announced that the junta Chief Minister of Mon State and three members of the Election Commission as well as the junta Deputy Minister of Education and a woman from Anti-Corruption Commission had been allowed to resign.
  • The military junta announced that the junta advisory team had been set up with representatives from union-based political parties and ethnic political parties to hold the upcoming election successfully.

Summary on 3 February

  • Even after the coup for two years, the military junta has not been able to rule the country yet. The junta leader Min Aung Hlaing confessed that they could control only half of the local areas. In other words, the remaining half has been under revolutionary forces, PDFs and the NUG.
  • The PDFs have been able to increase the People’s Defensive War. They even managed to take control of towns. Air defence systems will be needed to keep those areas under their influence.
