The National Unity Government (NUG)

  • MDY PDF officially announced that they are in the position to fight the military junta and are ready to try to take control of areas.
  • Under the guidance of the NUG, there was an educational funfair at a school of the interim in Yinmabin Township of Sagaing Region on Monday. Reportedly, outstanding students were awarded at the ceremony.
  • The combination of revolution forces, including the National Unity Consultative Council-NUCC and NUG, jointly released a statement on the people’s revolution, containing the fight against the military dictatorship, and the establishment of a federal nation and federal army.
  • According to the Fire Department under the Ministry of Home Affairs and Immigration-NUG, the junta armed forces set fire to more than 41,355 people’s houses in 2022.
  • Union Minister of Foreign Affairs-NUG stated that Myanmar was a hot topic on the agenda of international summits and the meetings of the United Nations.
  • At 10:00 am Saturday, there was a meeting (9/2022) between the NUG Central Committee on the Interim Public Administration and Bago Regional Public Administration Teams.
  • On Sunday, Union Prime Minister of the NUG stated that more than 4000 soldiers and around 9000 police members had defected to the public after the military coup.

Revolution Activities

  • In Sagaing Region, Taze General Strike marched against the military dictatorship on Monday.
  • In Khin-U Township, the junta army stayed in Aleshoe Village for 5 days and set fire to people’s houses.
  • On Monday, a combined rally of local villages from Salingyi and Yinmabin marched against the military dictatorship.
  • In Yinmabin Township, the youth and students led a protest against the military dictatorship.
  • In Khin-U Township, the junta army set fire to Myakan Village.
  • In Bangkok, anti-junta youth from UG Family took up a collection on Monday for the fund of the Spring Revolution.
  • In Yay Township of Mon State, a MyTel telecom tower, owned by the military junta, was blown up. Reportedly, there was also an attack on the junta army on the way to inspect the scene, killing 7 junta soldiers.
  • In Taninthayi Township of Taninthayi Region, there were exchanges of fire on Sunday. Consequently, nearly 1500 people from 10 villages had to run away.

Ethnic Armed Organizations

  • In Phapun District under Karen National Union-KNU, Karen National Liberation Army-KNLA announced that the junta administrators and departmental employees were to resign and leave the area between 1 and 10 January.
  • The Alliance of Three Brothers, namely Arakan Army-AA, Ta’ang National Liberation Army- TNLA and Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army-MNDAA called for more collective effort as the military dictatorship could be uprooted only with the collaboration in harmony.
  • Chair of Kachin Independence Organization stated that it was time for neighbouring countries to help anti-junta people and armed forces.
  • In KyaIn Seikgyi Township of Kayin State under the KNU Brigade (6), an alliance attacked and took control of the two camps of the junta Border Guard Force-BGFs on Monday. Reportedly, there were a large number of casualties among junta members.
  • In Tedim Township of Chin State, there was a local battle, killing 2 junta soldiers.

The Military Council

  • The junta leader Min Aung Hlaing, dressed like the President, was present on the occasion of awarding prestigious titles in Nay Pyi Taw on Sunday.
  • The military junta closed all the passport offices in Yangon and other parts of the country indefinitely. Reportedly, they suspended issuing passports.
  • On Saturday and Sunday, an abbot and 16 young members of Urban Guerrilla were arrested in Mandalay.
  • Chief Military Officer of the TNLA stated that captain graduates and officers would be appointed in leadership role of respective brigades and regiments.
  • According to the junta propaganda team, the junta leader Min Aung Hlaing provided prestigious titles to former Prime Minister U Nu, former President U San Yu, General Ne Win and Senior General Saw Maung.

Summary on 2 January

  • The junta leader in the presidential accessory highlights his hunger for the position of President. He also awarded prestigious titles to the family members of former military officers. It can be said that he intended it for the support from the military community.
  • There have been battles all over Kayin State. Reportedly, the junta army had to let go of their camps one after another. In the battles, the junta army faced a great loss. As for revolution forces, they lost some members.
  • The EAOs claimed that they had decided to uproot the military dictatorship. In other words, 2023 would be the year of hardships for the military junta led by Min Aung Hlaing.
