Summary on 29th July

  • In Sagaing Region, public protests had great momentum and so did the revolution of PDFs. There were frequent battles between the junta army and local PDFs all across the region. The previous day, over 50 PDF members were arrested due to a trap of the junta armed villagers. From such an incident, it could be seen that the junta army had given weapons to pro-military people, USDP members and Ma-Ba-Tha members, and were using them as a medium for their operation. There might be more killings between the two sides in those areas.
  • In Mandalay, the military junta had been trying to conduct crackdowns on protests in various ways. Despite such incidents, there were still many large rallies against the military dictatorship.
  • In Dawei District of Taninthayi Region, anti-junta movements still had great momentum. Amidst various oppressions by the junta armed forces, local people expressed their objection to the military dictatorship in any possible way. In other states and regions, there were almost no protests. The public were faced with the COVID-19 pandemic and the disaster of floods. Consequently, they were in need of assistance.
