Summary on 30 June

  • The military junta has been arranging for the ASEAN Special Envoy to Myanmar to meet with some ethnic armed organisations. None of those EAOs have been in ongoing battles against the junta armed forces. The military junta might have been trying to give false information to ASEAN.
  • With regard to the request of the ASEAN Special Envoy to send Daw Aung San Su Kyi back home and to implement the ASEAN five-point Consensus, the military junta has not yet implemented any of ASEAN's five points. Therefore, the trip seems to have been in vain for ASEAN.
  • In recent days, junta soldiers from Chinese-backed projects have been making trouble in the neighborhood of the projects. In response, local defence forces have conducted attacks on the Wanbao Project. The Chinese Foreign Minister will come to Myanmar to attend a meeting. According to political analysts, he might urge the military junta to release Daw Aung San Su Kyi or send her back home.
  • There was a lot of fighting in Chin, Sagaing and Kayin states, especially at the junta Okkayitta Army Camp in Kayin State where the military junta has been using air strikes. As usual, they have been burning people’s houses despite them having nothing to do with the fighting. Consequently, local people have had to run away.
