Spring Revolution Daily News for 4 February 2023 

The National Unity Government (NUG) 

  • The NUG announced that they would get started with the sale of Spring Bliss Housing 1, 2 and 3 on 11 February. 
  • Former Foreign Minister of Indonesia stated that the empty seat for Myanmar in ASEAN was not the solution and the Association could discuss Myanmar’s affairs with the NUG and other democratically-elected organizations. 
  • According to the Ministry of Home Affairs and Immigration-NUG, Pale Township Public’s Administration provided assistance to the fire victims from the villages, which had been burnt down by the junta armed forces, on Thursday. 
  • The Committee Representing Pyitaungsu Hluttaw (CRPH) announced that the 5th Session of the Union Parliament had been successfully conducted for three days from 31 January to 2 February. 
  • Man Win Khine Than, the Union Prime Minister of the NUG, stated that it was necessary for the government members of defence and administration to do more community-based advocacy. 
  • Minister of Defence-NUG claimed that the townships where the military junta had issued martial law directives had already been under the control of the PDFs and ethnic revolutionary forces and thus, the junta’s statement was opposite to reality. 

Revolution Activities 

  • In Khin-U Township of Sagaing Region, the military junta declared martial law. Afterwards, the PDFs conducted an attack in town. Reportedly, a junta soldier was shot and a gun was confiscated. 
  • In Sagaing Township, there was a mine attack on the junta army on their way back from Kantalu Tollbooth. Reportedly, 4 junta soldiers, including a captain, died. 
  • In Monywa, a combined rally of anti-junta youth network and rural people marched against the military dictatorship on Friday. 
  • On Friday, a combined rally of local villages from Salingyi and Yinmabin marched for the end of the military dictatorship. 
  • In Khin-U Township, a combined rally of local public’s administration, local defence forces, the education family and local people marched for the downfall of the military dictatorship on Friday. 
  • In Dibeyin Township, Pittsburgh Myanmar Christian Church-USA donated blankets, mosquito nets and warm clothes to over 100 households from 4 local villages, which had been burnt down by the junta armed forces. 
  • In Hommalin Township, the town of Shwe Pyi Aye has been under full control of PDFs. As for the townspeople, they have had to run away in case of the junta’s air strikes. 
  • Since the military coup, there have been the CDM staff as well as the CDM elephants. Reportedly, there would be a campaign to support the basic needs of such elephants. 
  • In Thayetchaung Township of Taninthayi Region, a member of Pyusawti was shot in Nyaungzin Village. Afterwards, the junta army set fire to the village school. 
  • A total of 61 organizations sent a letter to the European Union and European countries to bring the military junta to the ICC and to lead the lawsuit at the ICJ for war crimes and genocide. 

Ethnic Armed Organizations 

  • On Mindat-Matupi Road in Chin State, local CDFs have been conducting thorough inspection for non-CDM staff, informers and the junta armed forces. They also called on the public to send the information about such people. 
  • On Thursday, the military junta declared martial law in Thantlang Township of Chin State. After that, local CDF conducted a bomb attack via drone on the local police station. 

The Military Council 

  • In Nay Pyi Taw, the Department of Markets announced that they would confiscate 55 shops from Poatbathiri Market, Aungzabu Market and Dakhina Thiri Market. 
  • The military junta declared martial law in 11 townships of Sagaing Region, 5 townships of Magwe Region, 5 townships of Bago Region, 2 townships of Taninthayi Region, 7 townships of Chin State, 2 townships of Kayin State, 4 townships of Kayah State and a township of Mon State. 
  • On Friday, Dr. Ye Lwin, the former Mayor of Mandalay, was sentenced to two more years in prison by the junta court inside Obo Prison. 
  • A total of 22 political parties, including Union Solidarity and Development Party, released statements in support of the declaration of martial law. 
  • The military junta announced that there would be more security measures in the areas under martial law. 

Summary on 3 February 

  • After admitting that some townships are not in their control, the military junta declared martial law in 37 townships. They then claimed that they just increased security measures. As a matter of fact, it makes no difference as the country has been under military rule since the coup. 
  • The townships where the military junta declared martial law have been under the NUG. On the other hand, PDFs have been taking control of one town after another.
