Spring Revolution Daily News for 4 September 2022 

The National Unity Government (NUG) 

  • On Thursday, Ministry of Home Affairs and Immigration-NUG announced that they had established people’s forces in three townships. 
  • There has been an ongoing campaign calling on the general public to take part in the petition for the United Nations to keep Myanmar Ambassador U Kyaw Moe Tun and reject the junta representative. 
  • Myanmar’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations U Kyaw Moe Tun said that the high inflation rate in Myanmar was alarming and it had negative impacts on the social lives of people as well as businesses. 
  • U Kyaw Moe Tun welcomed the one-year extension of the programmes by UNDP and UNFPA for Myanmar. 
  • The NUG announced on Saturday that they had dismissed all the non-CDM officers from the city development councils of Yangon and Mandalay. 
  • The spokesperson of the NUG President’s Office said that the 54th-56th residence on University Avenue in Yangon had already been regarded as national heritage and thus, they would take serious action against anyone who would try to sell or buy the historic house. 

Revolution Activities 

  • On Friday, the US Secretary of State condemned another 3-year imprisonment imposed on the ousted leader Daw Aung San Su Kyi. He also called for more pressure on the military junta. 
  • In Kanyutgwin of Bago Region, a second police sergeant Htay Hlaing arrested a man named U Kyin Shwe in hand-cuffs for not paying his electricity bill. Reportedly, the police then shot at the man as well as his nephew at the local police station. 
  • In Paletwa Township of Chin State, there have been battles between the junta army and Arakan Army-AA. Due to air strikes of the military junta on Thursday, over 560 local people had to run away and cross the border to Mizoram in India. 
  • In Yinmabin Township of Sagaing Region, a combined rally of Salingyi and Yinmabin marched against the military dictatorship on Saturday. 
  • In Myaung Township, the MRA carried out a bomb attack via drone on the police station in Kyaukyit Village on 29 August. Reportedly, 3 junta members died and another one was injured. 
  • In Kani Township, an alliance of local PDFs conducted a surprise attack on the junta army near Chanthasu Ward on 23 August. Reportedly, no less than 10 junta soldiers died. 
  • In Kawkarait Township of Kayin State, Saw Dragon Drone Force carried out a bomb attack via drone on the junta army stationed near Kawnwet Village. 
  • Starting from 1 September, People’s Sons would provide additional financial rewards to members of the junta armed forces who dissert and join the CDM. 
  • In Patheingyi Township of Mandalay Region, there was an explosion at a casino on Thursday. As the junta army was at the scene for inspection, another explosion happened. Consequently, there were casualties among junta soldiers. 
  • Pyigyi Dagun Sayardaw said that junta monks lived on the donation of the public and acted rudely against them. 
  • In Moenyin Township, the junta army fired mortars near Tandabin Village at about 8:00 pm Friday. 

Ethnic Armed Organizations 

  • In Fruso Township of Karenni State, there might have been casualties among junta soldiers in an ambush by KNDF Brigade (15). 
  • Golden Eagles People Defense Force shot down a junta drone detecting Cobra Troops on Myawaddy-Wawlay Road. 

The Military Council 

  • The junta armed forces conducted air strikes using fighter jets and helicopters in the vicinity of the junta army camp confiscated by Arakan Army-AA on the border of Myanmar and Bangladesh. as well as other strategic points in the area. 
  • At 8:00 am Sunday, the junta leader Min Aung Hlaing would leave Nay Pyi Taw for Russia by MAI Airbus A319. Reportedly, his trip will last for 8 days. 
  • The junta propaganda leader Zaw Min Tun said that fuel oil imported from Russia was cheaper than the current global market price and it would arrive soon. 
  • The junta propaganda leader said that they had been giving priority to fuel oil and edible oil to lower the cost of living. 
  • The junta Ministry of Trade and Commerce announced that Myanmar had donated 1000 tons of rice to Sri Lanka facing an economic crisis. 

Summary on 3 September 

  • The military junta sold gold coins and thus, the price fell in the market. Being a quick fix, it would not last long. 
  • In Rakhine State, heavy battles resumed and the number of displaced people would continue to rise. Due to the junta restrictions, the IDPs had to face difficulties with their daily basic needs such as food. 
  • In Kayin, Karenni, Chin, Sagaing and Magwe, there were battles between the junta army and EAOs or PDFs on a daily basis. Reportedly, the military junta had a great loss there. On the other hand, the junta armed forces set fire to public’s houses and killed whoever they met, accusing them of being PDF members.
