Spring Revolution Daily News for 5 August 2023 

The National Unity Government (NUG) 

  • Until June 2023, there have been 74 civil cases and 306 criminal cases at the NUG courts. 
  • Ministry of Defence-NUG announced that the committee on complaints had been set up, accepting and investing the complaints. 
  • Under Ministry of Home Affairs and Immigration-NUG, Myaung Township People’s Security in Sagaing Region conducted basic interrogation training (1/2023) on 1 August. Reportedly, 37 trainees joined it. 
  • At 3:00 pm Thursday, there was a meeting (6/2023) between Ministry of Home Affairs and Immigration-NUG and District People’s Administration. 
  • Union Prime Minister of the NUG stated that the junta army could not be intrusive due to the military performance of comrades. 
  • Under Order (45/2023) on 2 August, the NUG blacklisted 49 members of Yangon City Development Committee, which mainly comprises military-turned-civilians. 
  • In a session of the United Nations Security Council, Ambassador U Kyaw Moe Tun claimed that the UN Security Council had not been able to take action against the war crimes, international crimes and human rights violations of Myanmar’s military junta. 
  • In Magwe Region, 8 security guards allegedly raped a woman charged with theft at a detention centre of Saw Township People’s Administration. Regarding the case, the administration expressed their apology. 

Revolution Activities 

  • U Tun Myint, a member of Central Executive Committee, stated that the National League for Democracy (NLD) would take action against Henry Van Thio, who had attended the junta meeting to extend their power. 
  • In Sagaing Region, a rally of villages from Yinmabin Township and Salingyi Township marched against the military dictatorship on Friday. 
  • In the southern part of Pale Township, the junta armed forces set fire to public’s houses in Tane Village at about 4:00 am Thursday. 
  • In Yinmabin Township, a rally of Unity protested against the military dictatorship. 
  • In Dibeyin Township, the junta army set fire to Marakan Village for the third time. Reportedly, over 30 houses were damaged. 
  • In Pakkoku Township of Magwe Region, a combined force of PDFs attacked the junta Kyuttoe Police Station. Reportedly, about 10 junta members died and many others were injured. 
  • In Natmauk Township, U Daung Tin, the administrator of Dantthalunbin Village, was shot dead at 9:25 am Thursday. 
  • In Kyaukdagar Township of Bago Region, the junta armed forces fired heavy artillery into Thamin Ingone Village, killing Saw Paing Thu, a young man aged 16. 
  • In Taninthayi Township of Taninthayi Region, the junta army regiment Ka-La-Ya (561) indefinitely shot mortars. Consequently, two local people were injured and 6 houses were damaged. 
  • In Dawei Township, there was an attack on a military car near Maungme Shaung Village. Reportedly, 5 junta soldiers died and many others were injured. 
  • In Thayetchaung Township, the PDFs arrested those smuggling drugs and intoxicants. 

Ethnic Armed Organizations (EAOs) 

  • In Muse Township of Shan North, there were a large number of casualties among junta soldiers in the battle against Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA) in Selant Village Tract. 
  • In Phyuu Township of Bago Region, Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) blew up Kunchaung Bridge near Thitphyuseik Village at about 2:00 am Friday. 
  • According to Mutraw Newsletter, there were 189 local battles in the area under control of Karen National Union Brigade (5) in July. Reportedly, 109 junta soldiers died, 3 military buildings were destroyed, a car was damaged and a herd of 41 horses fled. 
  • According to CDM soldier Tin Thein, the junta army officers told their soldiers that they could burn public’s houses, take away public’s belongings, shoot dead anyone they see and rape women to death in the areas with battles against the junta army like Karenni State. 

The Military Council 

  • Between Muse and Kutkhine in Northern Shan State, the junta army arrested 2 young men from Timar Village and burnt them to death. 
  • The junta Ambassador Min Thein based in Vienna said that Myanmar pledge fully for cooperation with member states for peaceful application of nuclear energy and a nuclear-free world. 
  • On Thursday, the military junta announced the replacement for some vacant ministers. 
  • The junta Yangon Regional Chief Minister conducted a domestic and industrial sale at People’s Square for 3 days. Reportedly, he put pressure on business people, students and government staff to go there without fail. 

Summary on 5 August 

  • There were battles in Eastern Bago, Kayin, Karenni, Sagaing and Taninthayi. Reportedly, the junta army had a great loss whereas the revolution forces managed to gain more control. 
  • After the coup in Myanmar, the junta armed forces have burnt local villages and killed people in conflict and agricultural areas. Consequently, the number of displaced people has been on the rise. They have been in need of food and healthcare services.
