Summary on 4th September

  • To control inflation of the country in recent months, the military junta only used the method of selling millions in foreign currency from the State’s fund. Current foreign investment is gradually leaving the country. They made arrangements to buy foreign currency from traders by force. Assumingly, the military junta might face a shortage of foreign currency. Myanmar currency continued to devalue and 1$ was worth over 1800 Kyats in the external market. Due to the gap of bank exchange rates, the black market emerged again like that of the previous military tenure. The local price of gold increased steadily as well. Consequently, there might be economic hardships.
  • In Kayin State, the military junta had been strengthening their manpower. Consequently, there were clashes with KNU forces. In those areas, the junta armed forces deliberately shot local residents and thus, innocent civilians lost their lives. The battles might proceed as KNU said that they would join hands with any anti-junta organizations and fight against all forms of dictatorship.
