The National Unity Government (NUG)

  • Acting President of the NUG said that the junta army no longer deserve to be called ‘Tatmadaw’ or military and they had degraded to be terrorists, the public’s enemy.
  • According to the right to self-defence, the public have been taking part in a People’s Defensive War. The NUG announced that 77 members of the junta armed forces had died and 26 others had been injured on Tuesday.
  • At the government meeting of the NUG, Acting President said that independence, gained out of sacrifices and unity of the mountains and the mainland, was lost due to a group of people with a craving for power and self-interest.
  • Acting President said that the military junta, led by Min Aung Hlaing, started to talk about dialogue for the time being. It would be extremely difficult to meet and discuss with them as they had been destroying the whole country violently. He also called on all EAOs to reject the NCA path of the junta.
  • Union Prime Minister Man Win Khine Than said that more support could be provided to all 4 main sectors - funding, arms, alliance and cooperation, and strategy - and thus, the public’s victory was not far away.
  • Via social media, Medical University (2) Yangon Students’ Committee announced that a Spring Hospital had been opened in an ethnic liberated area.

Revolution Activities

  • In Tantsi Township of Sagaing Region, an alliance of CAF – TPC conducted a mine attack at Aung Chan Tha inspection camp, where the junta armed forces had been asking for money from the public, on Wednesday. Reportedly, 3 junta soldiers and a police member died.
  • On Monywa-Ayadaw road, a supporting vehicle of the junta army was attacked with mines twice by a combined force of local PDFs at about 6:00 am Tuesday. Reportedly, there might be casualties among junta soldiers.
  • As a 332-day protest, Kalay people marched against the military dictatorship on Wednesday, burning the photo of Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen, who would come to Myanmar to meet with the junta leader Min Aung Hlaing.
  • In Kyauk Myaung of Shwebo District, a local resident named Ko Kyaw Thura was arrested by the junta army on Sunday. Reportedly, his family was informed to come and get his dead body the following day.
  • In a village of Shwebo Township, there was a march against the military dictatorship on Wednesday morning.
  • In Monywa, the junta army on patrol was attacked with mines by DRPA. Reportedly, 3 junta soldiers died on the spot.
  • In Kani Township, a rally of Natlapo Taung village led a march against the military dictatorship on Wednesday.
  • In a village of Dibeyin Township, there was a protest against the military dictatorship on Wednesday.
  • On Wednesday, there was an event to show the testing of weapons, invented by Daungni PDF based in Kani Township.
  • At about 12:30 pm Wednesday, an alliance of SNAKE EYES-PDF, C&T(Shwebo) and SHWEBO GHOSTS conducted an attack with mines at a military convoy heading to Seikkun village to collect electricity bills. Inquiries are being made about casualties of junta soldiers.
  • On Wednesday, a combined rally of Latbadaung Area General Strike and Monywa Students’ Union marched against the military dictatorship, holding an anti-junta banner.
  • In Chin State, there was a fighting between local CDF and a large number of the junta armed forces on Matupi-Hakha road at about 6:00 am Tuesday. Reportedly, 3 junta soldiers, including an officer, died.
  • In North Okkalapa Township of Yangon Region, 2 bombs exploded in front of Ward (2) administration office at 5:30 am and 6:30 am Wednesday. According to local residents, 2 junta policemen were injured.
  • In North Dagon and East Dagon, there were bomb explosions at about 5:50 am, 6:15 am and 6:50 am Wednesday.
  • In Mayangone Township, there were bomb explosions at 9 Mile twice at 5:44 am and 6:42 am Wednesday.
  • After 2 junta informers had been shot dead in Kawhmu Township, 7 local residents, including a pregnant woman, were arrested by the junta army. Reportedly, they have not been released yet.
  • In North Dagon Township, a guerrilla force blew up stream-crossing bridge with railway, used by the junta trains, with 2 remote mines at about 6:13 am Wednesday.
  • A total of 273 revolutionary forces released a statement against Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen, who had been helping the junta leader Min Aung Hlaing to gain legitimacy, saying that he must not get any chance to set his foot in Myanmar.
  • In Mandalay Region, a local PDF conducted an attack with mines against a military car leaving Ngazun Township for Tada-U Township near Thanutsit village. Reportedly, 3 junta soldiers died and another one was injured.
  • According to Ma Aye Myint Aung Aung, a woman protest leader in Mandalay, members of the junta armed forces in plain clothes raided the hostel where she used to live. Reportedly, they arrested 2 other people and took away belongings including money.
  • In Thayetchaung Township of Taninthayi Region, allegedly a Pyusawti member was killed in Zawphya village on Tuesday.
  • In Pulaw Township, a PDF member lost their life in the fighting against Pyusawti members on Tuesday and his funeral took place the same day.
  • On Tuesday night, there was a fire at Ngwepyaw village, where the IDPs in Kachin State had been relocated. Reportedly, 3 houses were damaged.

Ethnic Armed Organizations

  • On Wednesday, TNLA members entered Namkam and the junta army began shooting. Consequently, there was military tension, according to local sources.
  • According to Mutraw Newsletter, there were 2692 battles between the KNLA and the junta armed forces in Phapun District under the KNU Regiment (5) in 2021. Reportedly, 1364 junta soldiers died and 1313 others were injured. As for KNLA, they lost 30 members and 105 others were injured.
  • At 4:30 am Tuesday, there was a battle between the junta army and the KNLA in Laykaykaw new town in Myawaddy Township under the KNU Regiment (6). According to KNU, 4 junta soldiers died.
  • In Karenni State, there was a confrontation between KA/KNDF and the junta army invading Shadaw at about 1:00 pm Tuesday. Reportedly, no less than 16 junta soldiers, including deputy officer Kyaw Thu Soe, died and many others were injured.
  • In Phalan Township of Chin State, the junta armed forces in Tibual police station stepped on a mine in a land clearance operation. According to the CNO on Tuesday, a junta soldier died and many others were injured.

The Military Council

  • According to the junta newspaper, a delegation, led by water-measurement Chief of the Indian Navy, arrived in Myanmar to attend the 1st meeting on water measurement joint committee.
  • According to the junta media, there were exchanges of fire as the junta armed forces were attacked with 2 hand-made bombs and gunfire in a district education office and No. (2) high school in Shwebo of Sagaing Region.
  • According to the junta newspaper, the junta armed forces went to arrest KIA and PDFs in Ingha village of Pinlebu Township of Sagaing Region on Wednesday. There were exchanges of fire and some weapons were confiscated.
  • In Namkam of Shan North, mortars shot by the junta army fell and exploded near Hona village. Reportedly, 6 local residents were injured and some houses were damaged.

Summary on 5 January

  • TNLA entering the town posed another hardship for the military junta. In addition, the Sagaing revolution gradually approached the capital of the region. However, it will take some time to get control of a town under the current conditions.
  • In Karenni, Kayin and Chin, there were battles, causing a great loss for the junta armed forces. More and more people joined EAOs and PDFs whereas very few joined recruitment for the junta army. In some areas, the military junta had to rely on Pyusawti members. In terms of determination, junta soldiers could not compete with the revolutionary forces.
