The National Unity Government (NUG)

  • On Thursday, there was a meeting between responsible personnel of the Ministry of Defence-NUG and Mandalay PDFs.
  • At 10:00 am Wednesday, there was a meeting (1/2023) between Ministry of Home Affairs and Immigration-NUG and District Public Administration Teams.
  • Daw Phyu Phyu Thin, Secretary of Committee Representing Pyitaungsu Hluttaw (CRPH), said that together with CDM staff and Generation-Z, the committee members would keep going until the end of the revolution. She also expressed thanks to the CDM heroes participating in the anti-junta movement until now.
  • Union Minister of Defence-NUG sent birthday wishes to the Vice Chair (1) of the Kachin Independence Council-KIC.

Revolution Activities

  • In Taze Township of Sagaing Region, the junta army and Pyusawti Group set fire to Kyungdawgone Village on Thursday afternoon.
  • On Thursday, a combined rally of local villages from Salingyi and Yinmabin marched against the military dictatorship.
  • In Yinmabin Township, a rally of Rural Rebels led a march for the end of the military dictatorship on Thursday.
  • In Monywa, there was a dawn strike against the military dictatorship on Thursday, holding flaming torches and raising the banner - ‘No chance for the junta to rule Monywa’.
  • In Salingyi Township of Sagaing Region and Kyaikto Township of Mon State, there were attacks on the junta armed forces. Reportedly, a junta soldier died.
  • Mandalay Monks’ Union conducted an anti-junta movement.
  • In Pulaw Township of Taninthayi Region, there were exchanges of fire between local PDF and the junta army near Tapo Village. Reportedly, 2 junta soldiers died. As for the PDF, they lost a member.
  • On Wednesday, General Strike Coordination Body officially announced that the election, which the military junta had been trying to hold, was not legitimate and any participants must serve political punishment.
  • In Myaing Township of Magwe Region, there was an attack with mortars on a Pyusawti camp. Reportedly, 6 junta soldiers and Pyusawti members were injured.

Ethnic Armed Organizations

  • In KyarIn Seikgyi Township of Kayin State, over 90 junta soldiers died in the Taungzun Battle. According to Kawthoolei Army Lion Battalion, 8 PDF members lost their lives.
  • In Kawkarait Township under Karen National Union-KNU Brigade (6), the junta army conducted aerial bombing on the camp of Daungmin Battalion.
  • On Thursday, the Arakan Liberation Party-ALP announced that the United League of Arakan/ Arakan Army had assassinated 3 officers of the ALP; a chief military officer, a commander and a captain.

The Military Council

  • The junta Ministry of Information-MOI announced that there had been surprise attacks on the junta army camps in KyarIn Seikgyi Township and Phapun Township in Kayin State, causing casualties among junta army officers and soldiers.
  • The junta propaganda media stated that the weapons of PDFs had been confiscated near Myenilyo Crossroads on Shwebo-Myitkyina Road in Khin-U Township of Sagaing Region.
  • In Nyaung Shwe Township of Shan South, there was a battle between Thantaung Village and Phayarni Village. According to the junta propaganda media, 3 members of Inlay PDF lost their lives.
  • At about 5:40 am Wednesday, a large number of PDFs attacked the junta army taking security measures at Yepya Bridge on Pauk-Pakkoku Road in the east of Pauk Township in Magwe Region.
  • The military junta announced that the junta army troops managed to take control of Kawkarait-Myawaddy Asia Road blocked by the KKO and PDFs and thus, the road could be used normally again.

Summary on 5 January

  • The revolution forces claimed that the junta army had a great loss in Kayin State. On the other hand, the military junta spread the propaganda that they did not lose their members and it was only PDF members who had died in battles.
  • In Sagaing Region and Magwe Region, the junta armed forces have been oppressing locals and burning villages. However, anti-junta protests still have been in great momentum.
