The National Unity Government (NUG)

  • The NUG Ministry of Home Affairs and Immigration announced that a combined force of PDF Regiment (3) and CDF KKG had arrested drug dealers in Kalay in Sagaing Region.
  • The Committee Representing the Pyidaungsu Hluttaw (CRPH) expressed its thanks to the public, international organisations and individuals who have been patiently supporting its efforts to restore people’s power and democracy in Myanmar as well as building a future nation with federal democracy including all ethnicities and minorities.
  • There was a meeting between the NUG Central Committee on the Interim Public Administration and the People’s Administration from Tanintharyi Region, Ayeyarwady Region and Bago Region.
  • The NUG Department for the Rule of Law and the Interim Judiciary Affairs called on other organisations, in addition to the People’s Revolutionary Forces, to send information and records related to crimes and violations of human rights committed since the coup.
  • In recent days, the military junta extended its period of military rule for six more months and declared military rule in 37 townships. According to the NUG Minister of Defence, such activities highlight how little control the military junta has.

Revolutionary Activities

  • In Hmawbi Township in Yangon Region, there was a bomb attack on an electricity office when defence force fighters pretended to be applying for power meters. Consequently, two staff members were injured. Reportedly, the junta army has been trying to arrest the bombers using CCTV records.
  • In Sagaing Region, a combined rally of Yinmabin and Salingyi marched against the military dictatorship on Monday.
  • In Kani Township, there was an anti-junta public talk with a banner reading: ‘As long as there is the military dictatorship, the country will remain under the death penalty’.
  • On Sunday, people from Dibeyin marched for the end of the military dictatorship.
  • In Pakkoku in Magwe Region, there was a mine attack on a junta car on patrol somewhere on a bypass. After that, the junta army shot dead five people.
  • In Launglon Township in Tanintharyi Region, the Dawei District Democratic Committee led a march against the military dictatorship on Monday.
  • In Bokpyin Township, an unknown armed group arrested three men in Htinme Village, including the junta administrator, on Sunday morning.
  • In Ngazun Township of Mandalay Region, there was a mine attack on the junta army on patrol between Ngwezingone Village and Nyaungbingyiyoe Village. Reportedly, 9 junta soldiers died.
  • In Mandalay, there was an anti-junta banner on the crossroads of 35/36 on Monday morning.

Ethnic Armed Organizations

  • In a speech on the 62nd anniversary of the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) on Sunday, the Chair of the Kachin Independence Organization (KIO) stated that uprooting the military dictatorship has become the common goal of the whole country.
  • According to Karen National Union (KNU), 5,666 people from six villages in Kalelwitu District have had to flee the junta armed forces who have been attacking civilians on purpose.
  • In a statement on the 76th Mon National Day, the New Mon State Party (NMSP), one of the ethnic armed organisations having peace talks with the military junta, claimed that it was still far from gaining the expected rights for ethnic people as the military junta is just clinging to the 2008 Constitution.
  • In Paletwa Township in Chin State, there were five local battles in January. According to CDF Paletwa on Saturday, 16 junta soldiers died and no less than 15 others were injured.

The Military Council

  • In Indaw in Sagaing Region, three people including a freelance journalist named Ma Yin Yin Thein, were each sentenced to one and a half year in prison.
  • Dr. SaSaKaWa, the Chair of the Japan Nippon Foundation, called for the security period to be maintained during the negotiations with the armed forces to provide humanitarian assistance in Rakhine State.
  • The junta leader Min Aung Hlaing said that power stations for electric vehicles would be constructed in crowded cities and roads.
  • In a meeting with the junta leader in Hlaingthaya Industrial Zone, MSME business people called for a reliable power supply.
  • The junta leader Min Aung Hlaing claimed that the hydro-power projects, which had been delayed during the administration of the democratic government, were being implemented again.
  • According to the port authorities, up to 51 cargo ships from 18 international shipping lines will come to the port in Yangon in February.

Summary on 7 February

  • Even in the rainy season, the junta cannot supply sufficient electricity. So, the business people had better be self-reliant in terms of electricity, rather than calling on the military junta to regularly provide power in the summer.
  • The junta leader claimed that the hydro-power projects, which had been suspended by democratic governments, were being implemented again. It may mean resuming projects, like the Myitsone Dam irrespective of public sentiment.
  • In areas with powerful revolutionary forces, there have been many anti-junta activities. On the other hand, there have not been protests in other areas. As for big cities, they have had a few guerrilla protests even amidst tight security measures.
