Spring Revolution Daily News for 7 May 2023

The National Unity Government (NUG) 

  • In the ministerial meeting on trust building for sustainable peace at the United Nations Security Council, Myanmar’s Representative to the UN called on the Council to take effective action against the military junta. 
  • According to the announcement of the Committee Representing Pyitaungsu Hluttaw (CRPH), a special session of the Union Parliament will be held at 10:00 am on 8 May. 
  • Under the instruction of the Ministry of Defence-NUG, the Pale Strategic Force was established by a combination of Yinmabin District PDF Regiment (7), Regiment (10) and Regiment (12). 
  • According to the PDF Headquarters under Ministry of Defence-NUG, 3948 junta members have died and 1760 others have been injured in the first four months of 2023. 
  • Minister of Defence-NUG told the international community that Myanmar would gain stability and development only when the evil spirit of the military junta led by Min Aung Hlaing could be uprooted. 
  • The NUG and weather experts warned that there could be a depression in the Bay of Bangel starting from 8 May and it might turn into a cyclone. 

Revolution Activities 

  • In Sagaing Township of Sagaing Region, there was a bomb attack via drone on a police station in Sartaung. Reportedly, a junta policeman was injured. 
  • On the border of Chaung-U Township and Monywa Township, the junta armed forces have been conducting an invasion into 7 local villages. Consequently, over 1000 people have had to run away. 
  • In Myinmu Township, the junta army burnt Lettoattaw Village and shot dead a villager. 
  • In Hommalin Township, the PDFs attacked the two camps of the SNA under the military junta. As the junta soldiers had a great loss, they conducted an aerial bombing via fighter jet. 
  • On Saturday, a combined rally of Salingyi and Yinmabin marched against the military dictatorship. 
  • In Yinmabin Township, a rally of Shwe Nwe Thwe marched for the downfall of the military dictatorship. 
  • On the border of Thabaitgyin Township and Sintku Township in Mandalay Region, there were local battles for three consecutive days. Reportedly, 37 junta soldiers died. 
  • In Thabaitgyin Township, an alliance of PDFs attacked the junta troop, killing 10 junta soldiers. 
  • In Ayeyarwady Region, Kyankhine Township General Strike protested against the military dictatorship, holding anti-junta signs. 
  • In Pekone Township of Shan South, the junta army conducted an aerial bombing on a village without any battle. Consequently, 3 local people were seriously injured. 
  • In Hinthada Township of Ayeyarwady Region, a member of the junta security office was shot dead in Konegyi Village. 
  • In Zalun Township, the junta armed forces and departmental staff destroyed the sign boards and banners of the NLD Office at about 9:00 am Friday. 
  • The revolution forces called for the boycott of the junta Academy Award Ceremony which was held in Nay Pyi Taw on 6 May. 
  • In Hpakant Township of Kachin State, the dead bodies of two men with gunshots were found at the entrance to Hmawsisar Village. 
  • In Bahan Township of Yangon Region, Dark Shadow UG conducted a time bomb attack on a pub next to MyTel Showroom at Yuzana Tower at about 7:00 pm Friday. 
  • The stateless Rohingya minorities told AFP that they would not agree to voluntary return to Myanmar. 

Ethnic Armed Organizations 

  • In Matupi Township of Chin State, 3 junta soldiers including an officer died and a gun was confiscated in a special operation by local CDF. 
  • In Hakha Township, around 20 junta soldiers died and 11 weapons were confiscated in a battle on 1 May. 
  • In the reply letter to the Brigade (5), Karen National Union (KNU) Central would carry out an investigation if some of their top leaders have been involved in illegal businesses. 
  • The Central Committee of the KNU Stated that they would join hands with the public for the end of the military dictatorship and for the establishment of a federal democratic union. 
  • In Kyaikto Township under the KNU Brigade (1), a combined force of the KNLA attacked the headquarters of the junta army Regiment (44) in Taunggalay Village. 
  • On Saturday, the Education Department under the KIO Government announced the results of the matriculation exam held in their areas for 2022-23 academic year. 

The Military Council 

  • The junta Yangon Regional Government claimed that they have prepared for the rescue in case of any natural disaster. 
  • The junta Union Minister of Foreign Affairs stated that they would make effective cooperation with the UN organizations and the international organizations for the resettlement and livelihood of the displaced people from Rakhine State. 
  • In the meeting on Friday, the junta leader Min Aung Hlaing instructed for more transportation via air and waterways to the areas with poor access on land. 
  • On the sidelines of the ministerial meeting of Shanghai Cooperation Organization in India on Friday, the junta Myanmar Ambassador to India and the Secretary General of the SCO signed an agreement that Myanmar would be a discussing member. 

Summary on 6 May 

  • The extreme nationalists or the military junta have had racial prejudice against Rohingya people and committed genocide. Consequently, those minorities have had to run away. At the time of the burning villages and killing people in groups, the military junta stated that they would accept the return of Rohingya people. In other words, it would just be superficial. 
  • In Chin State, the junta army has had a great loss recently. On the other hand, Chin Revolution Forces managed to take control of the junta army camps and they have areas under their control.
