The National Unity Government (NUG)

  • According to the PDF Headquarters under the Ministry of Defence- NUG, PDFs conducted attacks via the air, ground and by using mines on the junta army and the junta Pyusawti militia in Magwe Region for four days.
  • According to PDF Headquarters under the Ministry of Defence- NUG on Sunday, 5 junta soldiers died and 9 others were injured in local battles between the junta army and a combined force of PDFs in Bago Region.
  • At 10:00 am Saturday, there was a meeting via video conferencing between the Committee on Education under the Committee Representing the Pyitaungsu Hluttaw (CRPH) and the members of Township Education Boards from Shan State. Reportedly, they discussed their activities related to education on the ground.
  • At 10:00 am on Sunday, there was a meeting between the NUG Central Committee on the Interim Public Administration and the Township People’s Administration from Ayeyarwady Region, Bago Region and Taninthayi Region.
  • The Minister of Human Rights- NUG stated that it was necessary to apply the lessons learnt from the 8888 uprising in the Spring Revolution.
  • On Sunday, the National Unity Consultative Council (NUCC) and the NUG jointly stated their 6 political stances including the eternal end of the army’s inclusion in politics.

Revolutionary Activities

  • According to Justice for Myanmar, the Prosecutor’s Office of Otzberg in Germany has started a criminal investigation of MAN Energy Solutions Company for its sale of main parts for the junta’s Moattama military vessel.
  • In Sagaing Region, a combined rally of local villages from Salingyi and Yinmabin marched against the military dictatorship on Monday.
  • In Yinmabin Township, there was a battle between the junta army and revolutionary forces near Pantainbyin Village.
  • In Salingyi Township, a rally of Ahmanthit or New Strength marched on Monday in memory of the 10 PDF members who lost their lives one year and 8 months ago.
  • In Yangon, anti-junta youth conducted a strike prior to the 35th anniversary of the 8888 Movement which overthrew the single-party rule led by General Ney Win.
  • In Thayarwaddy District of Bago Region, local PDFs announced that there would be action against those extracting timber illegally from Bago Mountain Range.
  • In Penang of Malaysia, the CSP Music Band conducted a fund-raising music concert in commemoration of the 8888 Movement.
  • In Longlone Township in Taninthayi Region, PDFs opened fire on a junta ration vehicle. Reportedly, a civilian was hit with a bullet and lost their life in the incident.
  • In Yangon, youths hung an anti-junta banner as a protest prior to the 35th anniversary of the 8888 Movement.

Ethnic Armed Organisations (EAOs)

  • After the Shan State Progressive Party/ Shan State Army (SSPP/SSA) declined the request of the junta army to withdraw from 10 camps in Lechar Township of Southern Shan State, there has been fighting between them.
  • On Sunday, it was announced that Chin National Council (Mindat) comprising local and international forces had been established to set political procedures for Chin State.
  • In Hpa Kant in Kachin State, a combined force of the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) and PDFs attacked and took control of Kathaingtaung junta army camp.
  • In Hpa Kant Township, a combined force of the KIA and the PDF gained control of 3 junta army camps. Reportedly, a large number of junta soldiers died and weapons were confiscated.
  • In Myawaddy Township of Kayin State, Thaungyin River has been flooded due to heavy rain. At the same time, there have been heavy battles between the junta army and a combined force of the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) + PDFs.

The Military Council

  • In Kyaukme Township of Shan State, 14 junta soldiers including an officer died were shot whilst in a military truck in Goatdwin. Reportedly, they were buried at Naungcho Cemetery.
  • According to the junta Forestry Department, over 4,800 tons of Myanmar teak were sold abroad in the first half of 2023.
  • According to the junta propaganda media, there was a clash between the junta army and the SSPP/SSA near Matlan Village in Lechar Township on Sunday morning. Reportedly, a member of the SSPP/SSA was caught together with weapons.
  • In Chauk Township of Magwe Region, the junta army took action against 4 men and a woman who had broken the oil pipe and stolen oil on 5 August.
  • The military junta announced again that those in the PDFs and other revolutionary forces were invited to defect to them. They added that necessary assistance would be provided and there would be financial rewards for those who defected with weapons.

Summary on 8 August

  • All across Shan North, there has been heavy fighting between the junta armed forces and the northern forces. In other words, the negotiations with China requested by Min Aung Hlaing did not work.
  • In recent battles, the junta army suffered great losses in the battles against the EAOs.
