Summary on 7 February

  • As a response to the critics that the junta leader could not rule the country even after a year of the coup, the military junta had been preparing for a grand ceremony on Union Day. They also kept calling for participation of the EAOs in the event, with a hint that the NUG was not invited.
  • They also gave an incentive that there could be free discussions on peace without any restriction on that day. In addition, they mentioned about ethnic unity in the statement in honor of 75th Shan State Day. In reality, however, it was known all over the country that those activities were just superficial. On the other hand, they conducted a variety of violence in ethnic areas. Therefore, what the junta leader said was not trustworthy at all.
  • Although the junta army shot dead a young protester hanging an anti-junta vinyl in the downtown area of Yangon, young people did not stop their movements and they conducted more protests all across the city. It was such a great honour that they had strong desire to save the country from the military dictatorship.
  • In Rakhine State, there were battles due to the invasive attacks of the junta armed forces. According to a spokesperson of the AA, there might be ongoing fighting in the days to come as the military junta invaded areas often. Despite their words for peace, the junta army did the opposite in reality and thus, what they said was not reliable at all.
