The National Unity Government (NUG)

  • The National Unity Consultative Council (NUCC) released a statement with appreciation to the ethnic armed organizations that have, so far, responded with an absolute No to the invitation of the junta leader for peace discussions.
  • The NUG announced that in the meeting with Assistant Secretary General of the United Nations Humanitarian Affairs and Deputy Coordinator of Emergency Rescue, they discussed matters such as providing assistance in various ways to people in trouble and the need for support from the international community including the UN and ASEAN.
  • The Chairs of the Upper and Lower Houses of Representatives in Germany wrote to the Committee Representing Pyitaungsu Hluttaw (CRPH) stating that they continue to stand with the CRPH.
  • According to The End of Dictatorship- EOD Program, they earned over a million USD within 48 hours from the sale of shares for the property of the junta leader Min Aung Hlaing in No. (14) on Inlya Road.
  • The National Unity Consultative Council (NUCC) announced that with political, military and other hardships, the military junta is finding it will be difficult to survive in the long run and thus, they made an invitation for peace just to gain a temporary solution.

Revolution Activities

  • Reportedly, 626 Civil Society Organizations and 220,000 people sent an open letter to the US President, calling for sanctions on the oil and gas and financial sources of the junta army led by Min Aung Hlaing accusing them of war crimes and genocide.
  • In Pauk Township of Magwe Region, Young Revolution Front – YRF attacked 70 junta soldiers and Pyusawti members at about 1:30 pm on 4 May. Reportedly, 30 members of the junta armed forces might have died. As for YRF, they lost 2 members.
  • In Gantgaw Township, Public Administration regard all junta army products as illegal ones. Reportedly, PDFs took control of the Gantgaw-Kalay road section and made inspections.In Yesagyo Township, there were exchanges of fire between the junta army and local PDF at 8:00 am Friday. Reportedly, a junta soldier died and 2 others were seriously injured.
  • At 1:00 pm Friday, the junta army raided Zeegone Village and shot dead a man named U Myint Thein. They then destroyed the people’s houses and took away their belongings.
  • According to the From People to People Campaign, anti-junta youth on Saturday provided basic food items, clothes and money to fire victims from the villages in Ayadaw Township of Sagaing Region, which had been burnt down by the junta army.
  • As a 423-day protest, a combined rally of Salingyi North and Yinmabin East marched against the military dictatorship on Saturday.
  • In Salingyi Township, there was an event in memory of 5 local heroes who had lost lives while fighting against the military dictatorship. Reportedly, a rally of villages from Yinmabin and Salingyi carried out a march in salute of them.
  • In Myaung Township, a military car overturned due to a trap placed by local PDFs on the way back after delivering four in-patient junta soldiers who had been seriously injured in battles.
  • In Hpakant of Kachin State, a rally of about 1000 local people including students, teachers and parents conducted their 15-month protest against the military dictatorship on Saturday.
  • In Myitkyina, local urban guerrillas conducted an attack with a 40MM grenade on the house of the leader of the pro-military NDAK People’s Army. Reportedly, 2 security guards died.
  • In North Dagon Myothit Township of Yangon Region, there was an attack with a projectile on Friday night. Reportedly, it fell on a house.

Ethnic Armed Organizations

  • In Lwetieti Area (former area of SSA Brigade 7) in Shan State, there was the first convocation of Shan community college on Saturday morning.
  • Reportedly, the ethnic armed organizations such as the Karen National Union (KNU), Kachin Independent Organization (KIO), Karenni National Progressive Party (KNPP) and Chin National Front (CNF) declined the invitation of the junta leader Min Aung Hlaing for peace talks.
  • In Yay Chaungphya Area under the control of New Mon State Party in Mon State, the Mon National Conference was conducted and a decision was made to finalize drawing up the Constitution of Mon State within 6 months.
  • In Chin State, junta convoys were attacked with mines by CDF Mindat on Friday evening and Saturday morning. Reportedly, there may have been many casualties among junta soldiers.

The Military Council

  • On Friday, there was a meeting between Mr. Watanabe Hideo, Chair of the Japan Myanmar Association (JMA) and U Myint Kyein, the junta Minister of Labour, in Nay Pyi Taw.
  • According to the junta Ministry of Information, 94 companies from 21 countries made investments at Thilawa Special Economic Zone. Among them, 89 companies suspended their activities in the third wave of COVID-19 pandemic in 2021. Due to the efforts of the junta Working Group and Management Committee, 82 of them resumed their operations and the remaining ones would soon start their activities again.
  • The junta Ministry of Trade and Commerce announced that importer/exporter certificates were revoked from the export companies which had failed to follow the rules of the junta Central Bank.
  • The junta Ministry of Information stated that they would help solve the problems faced by the cinemas which had been reopened recently.
  • ·According to the junta Basic Education Department, all students from international schools and local private ones had to take the entrance exam if they would like to transfer to public basic education schools. Reportedly, there had been a call for applications to do so under the junta curriculum.
  • According to the junta propaganda, no organizations removed the MRTV Application and Website introduced by the junta leader Min Aung Hlaing himself. For maintenance purposes, they themselves suspended broadcasting activities.

Summary on 7 May

  • The ethnic armed organizations announced that they would not attend the peace talks offered by the military junta. As for the National Unity Consultative Council (NUCC), they stated that such an invitation was just a fake one, a temporary solution to the problems faced by the junta.
  • Despite their heavy invasion into Sagaing Region in recent days, the junta armed forces did not meet their expectations, instead they suffered great loss. As usual, they set fire to villages and kept committing war crimes.
  • In the sale for the property of the junta leader Min Aung Hlaing in Yangon, the NUG earned a million USD within 48 hours. From there, it can be clearly seen how strong the attitude of the people is in their opposition to the military dictatorship.
