Spring Revolution Daily News for 8 October 2022 

The National Unity Government (NUG) 

  • Ministry of Electricity and Energy-NUG announced on Thursday that CDM staff with daily wages from the Ministry of Electricity and Energy as well as those from Ministry of Construction had been appointed as permanent staff. 
  • Ministry of Education-NUG announced that Myanmar Nway-Oo University (MNOU) had been opened on Friday for the students who would not like to study at junta institutions. 
  • Chair of Committee on the Interim Cultural Heritage Preservation stated ammunition had been fired by the junta army at ancient pagodas and restoration activities would be carried out throughout the country starting from Sagaing Region. 
  • The NUG stated that they were very proud of the United Nations in Myanmar for providing humanitarian assistance in accordance with the 17 Sustainable Goals and they were always ready to join hands with the UN for effective help to the displaced people who had to run away due to the inhumane activities of the military junta. 

Revolution Activities 

  • The very first four protesters, who had been arrested by the junta army in Mandalay after the military coup, were released from Obo Prison on Friday. 
  • In Wandwin Township of Mandalay Region, the junta armed forces on patrol were attacked with mines in the west of Yonebingone Village. Reportedly, two members of the junta police died. 
  • After 45 days of training, a troop in the Southern Brigade (6) will be established as the 96 Soldiers-PDF. 
  • In North Dagon Myothit Township of Yangon Region, youth hung an anti-junta banner in front of No. (5) Basic Education High School on Friday. 
  • In Kayan Township, local PDF conducted attacks with 40mm grenades on a local police station, and the gate of the forestry and township administration office on Friday. 
  • In North Dagon Myothit Township, Basic Education Students’ Union conducted an anti-junta movement. 
  • The CDM soldiers announced that in cooperation with the NUG, they would carry out more activities for the CDM, the way to the victory of the revolution, together with the support of the public. 
  • In Myaing Township of Magwe Region, there was a graduation at a community-based school of the NUG. 
  • According to local PDFs, the junta armed forces were attacked with mines on Pale, Kani, Myaing, Thabaitgyin, Wandwin and on Sagaing-Shwebo Road. Reportedly, 20 junta soldiers, including military officers, died. 
  • On Friday, a combined rally of local villages from Yinmabin and Salingyi marched for the end of the military dictatorship. 
  • In Yinmabin Township, there was an anti-junta rally with salute to three local martyrs who had lost lives in the Spring Revolution. 
  • In Yinmabin District, elephants and their trainers from the transportation service of Alaungdaw Katthapa Pagoda have joined hands with local PDF and they have been contributing to the revolution. 
  • In Chaung-U Township of Sagaing Region, the junta army set fire to Khin Mon Village. Reportedly, they ill-treated and arrested 400 local people. 
  • The US government officially announced that they had placed sanctions on arms importers for the junta army in Myanmar, namely Aung Moe Myint, Hlaing Moe Myint and Myo Thitsar. They also cancelled the visa of Than Hlaing, Police Officer in Chief and the junta former Deputy Minister of Home Affairs. 
  • On Friday, 5 CDM soldier groups announced that CDM military officer Myo Min Tun, who had defected to the junta army, was regarded as a traitor to the public. 
  • In Dawei Township of Taninthayi Region, there was a bomb explosion at the place, where the military junta would hold a traditional alms bowl floating festival, on Thursday evening. 

Ethnic Armed Organizations 

  • In Thatone District under Karen National Union-KNU Brigade (1), there were 39 battles between the junta army and a combined force of KNLA in September. Reportedly, 48 junta soldiers died and 41 others were injured. 
  • On the one-year anniversary of Dawei People’s Liberation Force, the Karen National Liberation Army, Karenni National Defence Force and the alliance sent statements of cooperation against the military dictatorship. 

The Military Council 

  • The military junta announced that there would be legal action against the selling and playing with fireworks in the Thadingyut Festival. 
  • The junta Central Committee on Myanmar Gems Emporium said the 2022 mid-year gems emporium would be held in Nay Pyi Taw.
  • A delegation led by the junta Deputy Minister of Labour met with Thai Labour Minister in Bangkok, Thailand on Thursday. 
  • On Wednesday, the military junta sealed off the house of Daw Khine Mar Myint, Chair of NLD Women Committee in Moegaung Township of Kachin State. 
  • The junta leader Min Aung Hlaing said that rice and related products were on the priority list of the National Export Strategy. 

Summary on 7 October 

  • Wherever he goes, the junta leader keeps saying that exports must be promoted. At the Myanmar Rice Conference, he claimed that Myanmar must be the largest exporter of rice in the world. But at the moment, the junta is having problems just dealing with demand from China, let alone the world. 
  • In recent days, there were some cases in which CDM soldiers had defected to the junta army. Through them, the military junta might be able to know partially or fully about revolution activities. Therefore, it is necessary to be careful with those who join the CDM later.
