Spring Revolution Daily News for 9 April 2023 

The National Unity Government (NUG) 

  • At 7:00 pm Thursday, Ministry of Home Affairs and Immigration-NUG met with the staff in the Civil Disobedience Movement (CDM) and motivated them. 
  • In Kalay Township of Sagaing Region, Local Public’s Administration provided food items to the people from a local village, who have had to flee their homes due to the battles against the junta army. 
  • In Yesagyo Township of Magwe Region, the Ministry of Education-NUG conducted an educational funfair in Yelegyun Area at 8:00 am Saturday. 
  • At 9:00 am Friday, there was a meeting (14/2023) between the NUG Central Committee on the Interim Public Administration and People’s Administration from Sagaing Region and Magwe Region. 
  • The authorities in Thailand arrested 3 young members of the revolution forces and transferred to the junta armed force without complying with international procedures. Regarding the case, the NUG has been working to resolve it. 

Revolution Activities 

  • In Butalin Township of Sagaing Region, the junta armed forces set fire to Yonelegone Village, Tayawtaw Village and Kokkosu Village at 6:00 am Saturday. 
  • In Wetlet Township, there was an attack via drone and mortars on a Pyusawti camp in Ywatha Village, killing 2 junta soldiers. 
  • In Ayadaw Township, Tamar Yinkwin Social Group provided the IDPs with basic food items and clothes. 
  • In Butalin Township, the junta army raided Dantie Village at about 4:00 am on 5 April. Reportedly, a villager was shot dead and two others were hit with bullets. 
  • On Saturday morning, a rally of Yinmabin North marched against the military dictatorship. 
  • In Pin Laung Township and Pekone Township of Shan South, there have been heavy battles since February. According to the PDFs, the same is true in April with intense military tension. 
  • In Moegok of Mandalay Region, local PDF attacked the junta police station in western area. 
  • In Pakkoku Township of Magwe Region, a captain in plain clothes from the junta army Regiment (101) based in Phonekan Village was caught alive on his way out to gather information. 
  • In Minhla Township, there was an attack with two projectiles on No. (10) weapon factory producing shells. Reportedly, the factory building was on fire. 
  • In Lashio Township of Shan North, there was a gunfire near Naungmon Police Station on Friday morning. Reportedly, 3 people were injured. Besides, the junta army also shot via helicopter. 
  • In Yebyu Township of Taninthayi Region, the junta army shot dead a man on a motorbike and brought his dead body to his family. 

Ethnic Armed Organizations 

  • In Kyaukgyi Township under Karen National Union (KNU) Brigade (3), some local people have been arrested by the junta soldiers and 5 others have been injured due to the mortars shot by the junta army. 
  • In Hakha of Chin State, the CDF Senthang completed their supplementary training successfully for the second time on Friday. 
  • Kawthoolei Army announced that the people are to leave Shwe Kokko, the illegitimate town with criminal activity. They added that they would attack the area. 

The Military Council 

  • The junta court sentenced Dr. Hkalam Samson to 6 years in prison. Regarding it, the lawyer will submit an appeal. 
  • To make Mandalay Thingyan crowded, the military junta has also been putting pressure on the staff from private businesses to take part. 
  • In Moekaung Township of Kachin State, the junta army unlawfully arrested Ma Nay Chi Aung, a CDM employee of the General Administration Department. 
  • In Hommalin Township of Sagaing Region, the military junta sentenced 9 people, including local strike leader Ko Kyaw Win Sein, to long-term imprisonment. 
  • In Gyobinkauk of Bago Region, U Htay Min Thein, an NLD MP of People’s Parliament, was arrested on 4 April. Reportedly, he was sent to Paungty Prison on 7 April. 
  • According to a coordination meeting in Nay Pyi Taw, the junta Ministry of Planning and Finance will conduct activities for more ATM services for the government employees to withdraw their salaries at the government departments. 
  • On Friday, there was an online meeting among the junta leader Min Aung Hlaing, the Prime Minister of Thailand Prayut Chan-o-cha and the Prime Minister of Sonexay Siphandone about the smog pollution across the border. 
  • The junta Ministry of Health made the vacancy announcement for 182 positions related to medical field. 

Summary on 8 April 

  • In the south and the middle of the country, the revolution has been in great momentum. Even amidst the junta’s oppression, PDFs managed to attack and take control of the junta police stations. 
  • With prejudice, the military junta has arrested and sentenced long-term imprisonment to the CDM staff. They have done the same unlawfully to anti-junta people and strike leaders.
