The National Unity Government (NUG)

 

  • The National Unity Consultative Council (NUCC) expressed thanks to each of the participants in the contest for their slogan, motto and profile picture frame design.
  • On 4 September, there was a meeting between the delegation led by the NUG Union Minister of Foreign Affairs and a Czech team led by the Chair of the Lower House Mr. Markéta Pekarová Adamová.
  • In the meeting with the NUG Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Chair of the Czech Lower House said that they only support the civilian government.

Revolutionary Activities

  • In Myitgyina in Kachin State, a PDF carried out an attack on the junta army office in Thida Ward on Thursday morning.
  • In Moegaung, Mg Soe, allegedly Pyu Saw Htee leader as well as the owner of Soe Kantha Guesthouse and Pup, was shot dead at 4:30 am on Wednesday.
  • In Khin-U Township in Sagaing Region, local people marched calling for the NUG to be recognised and for the United Nations to keep U Kyaw Moe Tun as Myanmar’s Ambassador.
  • In Myaung Township, there was fighting between the junta army and military officers on patrol under pretence of PDF members. Reportedly, four junta soldiers, including an officer, died.
  • On Thursday, women from the Kalay General Strike marched against the military dictatorship, holding signs saying ‘Without the participation of women, there cannot be victory in the revolution’.
  • On Thursday, a combined rally of villagers from Salingyi and Yinmabin marched for the end of the military dictatorship.
  • On Wednesday, a powerful protest by villagers from Salingyi and Yinmabin expressed their desire for the UN to keep U Kyaw Moe Tun as Myanmar’s Ambassador.
  • In Monywa Township, a convoy of five military vessels was attacked with mines on the Chindwin River by a local PDF.
  • According to Black Dragon Special Task Force on Thursday, there was a bomb attack using a drone on the junta Ma-U inspection gate at the entrance to Monywa. Reportedly, a junta soldier died and another one was injured.
  • In Sittway in Rakhine State, a Rohingya man aged 20 was shot dead on 4 September. Reportedly, police officer Myo Oo, who was mainly responsible for the case, was promoted to chief police officer of Tontay Township because he paid a bribe of 50 lakh MMK.
  • In Yangon, there was a march with signs saying ‘The September blood of the monks is not dry yet’.
  • According to Yangon people, the junta armed forces have been doing more inspections and demanding money from cars and pedestrians.
  • In Beelin Township in Mon State, Hla Win Thein, a former soldier and a Pyu Saw Htee leader, was shot dead.
  • From 1 to 15 September, Inle People’s Defence Force from Southern Shan State has been conducting a campaign to procure 3,000 AK bullets at a price of 6,000 MMK per bullet.
  • In Dawei Township in Tanintharyi Region, the junta army stationed in the mountain pagoda of Bawabin Village arrested nearly a 100 local people to use as human shields.
  • In Yamethin Township in Mandalay Region, U Tun Tun Win, an EC member of the local USDP branch, was shot dead in Kyarbin-In Village at about 8:30 pm Tuesday.

Ethnic Armed Organisations

  • In Beelin Township in Thatone District under the Karen National Union (KNU), the junta army forcibly arrested nine local people and used them as human shields.
  • In Shan North, there was a battle between the junta army and Kachin Independence Army (KIA0. Reportedly, there were many casualties among the junta soldiers. In response, the military junta conducted an air strike in the area on Wednesday.
  • According to KNU, the junta Border Guard Force Brigade (1014) threatened local people saying that they would burn their villages if the villagers failed to inform them about the arrival of KNLA and partner groups in the area.

The Military Council

  • The junta Central Bank announced that local banks were giving regular services for Visa and Master Card without any restrictions.
  • According to the Myanmar Sailors’ Federation, the junta Central Bank instructed Irrawaddy Bank to buy the USD income of sailors at the highest rate of the market price.
  • In a forum in Russia, the junta leader Min Aung Hlaing invited foreign companies including oil and gas businesses to invest in Myanmar.
  • The junta leader of Myanmar flattered the President of Russia and expressed too much respect.
  • According to the junta Ministry of Health on Wednesday night, there were 223 new cases of COVID-19 infection, the highest infection rate within a day in 2022.

Summary on 9 September

  • The military junta stated that they would allow the foreign currency sent home by Myanmar workers abroad to be exchanged into kyats (MMK) at the market rate. However, probably no one will trust them due to their previous activities.
  • There was fighting between the junta army and the KIA. As they suffered great losses in the attack, the military junta had to use fighter jets. As for Sagaing, Magwe, Chin, Karenni and Kayin, there was still heavy fighting there.
  • In big cities like Yangon and Mandalay, there were fewer protests and the same was true for upcountry regions because of the junta’s violent activities like burning villages and killing people. On the other hand, the number of displaced people continued to rise.
