Mizzima Media is deeply concerned to learn that Daw Thin Thin Aung and U James Pu Thoure, former members of Mizzima, have been detained without charges.

We would like to clarify that both have formally left Mizzima and have not worked for Mizzima since the coup of 1 February 2021. 

Daw Thin Thin Aung has been unwell for some time and had withdrawn from active working life prior to formally resigning from Mizzima. Daw Thin Thin Aung was formerly a journalist, starting her career with the BBC while in exile in India. She co-founded Mizzima in 1998 and worked as a Director until February 2021.

Mizzima fears for the lives of both its former members and appeals for their immediate release.
