Ta'ang National Liberation Army and junta militia clash in Muse, Shan State

The Ta'ang National Liberation Army (TNLA) and a militia group affiliated with the Myanmar Military Council engaged in combat on 21 October in Muse in northern Shan State.

The TNLA began firing on the militia camp and homes in Muse City's Khuwein Ward and Waienang Village at around 4:30 pm and the battle continued until 7 am the following morning.

"The militia operating under the Military Council was fired upon by the TNLA. The gunfire was loud. Both fired shots using small arms and heavy weaponry. I heard the militia chief had passed away. I cannot say for sure,” said a local resident.

Although Mizzima was unable to independently verify it, local people claimed that a militia leader was killed in the incident.

Conflicts erupted between the military junta and the TNLA after the military coup in February 2021. The TNLA has spoken out against the military takeover and promised to cooperate to build a federal democratic union.
