Thai officials have stepped up security along their border with Myanmar’s Mon State following an uptick in COVID-19 cases being reported in Myanmar, according to local Thai media.

Thailand recently reported its first registered COVID-19 case in two months. The authorities are trying to trace who that person came in contact with recently to test them.

Thailand has fared relatively well with a registered a total of 3,431 COVID-19 and 58 deaths over the last seven months.

The authorities are concerned about illegal passage of people across the border. There has been agreed to passage of Myanmar migrants from Thailand back to their home country, but there have been cases of migrants trying to come back in.

It is reported that security has been stepped up in Thailand’s Tak Province and two schools in Prachuap Khiri Khan have temporarily closed to a number of students reporting a fever. Some had allegedly crossed the Thai-Myanmar border with their parents, according to the Thaiger.com.
