Thailand has been tightening security on the Myanmar border as it tries to tackle a growing number of COVID-19 cases.

On Tuesday night two people from Narathiwat province were caught climbing over a border fence, from Myanmar to a village in Sangkhla Buri district, according to a report by Bangkok Post.

The two, a man and a woman, were spotted by a team of immigration officers, soldiers and police.

They were climbing over the fence along the border behind Wat Phra Chedi Sam Ong in tambon Nong Loo.

Both had their temperatures checked. They were normal.

The Thai authorities have stepped up security over the last month after a number of Thais returned illegally from Tachilek and were found to be infected with the virus. One of the women traveled to a number of places in Chiang Rai and Chiang Mai, sparking an urgent track and trace mission.
