Three junta soldiers killed in landmine attack in Kawthaung Township

Three soldiers were killed and eight others were injured when two junta cars were hit by landmines on the Kawthaung to Bokepyin, road in Tanintharyi Region, according to local People's Defence Force (PDF) members.

The attack, which happened near to Khamaukgyi Village in Kawthaung Township at around 8:55 a.m. on 28 August, was carried out by a joint force of fighters from the Bokepyin PDF and Kawthaung PDF.

A joint force fighter said: "We received information that the Kawthaung District Administrator was going to a meeting so we attacked with landmines. There were a lot of soldiers in the cars. We still don't know the death toll and damage caused by the attack."

The junta has tightened security in Kawthaung Town since the incident.

In the last few days in Kawthaung Township PDFs have also attacked the Kawthaung Township Court in Aung Thuka Ward and Myoma Police Station.
