In a Facebook post with gory photos from the scene, Timor-Leste President Jose Ramos-Horta spoke out today about the massacre by the Myanmar junta of 30 men, women and children in Mung Lai Hka IDP village in Laiza, Kachin State.

The Nobel Peace Laureate posted several photos with the following comment on his Facebook page:

“In the meantime, in Myanmar, the army goes on killing its own people, civilians, women and children, in total impunity.”

Ramos-Horta has been supportive of Myanmar’s resistance movement and the National Unity Government (NUG), and met representatives of the NUG.

Here, the Timor-Leste president was complaining about last night’s four aerial and artillery strikes on the IDP village around 11 pm on 9 October and 1 am on 10 October that killed at least 30 people and injured over 20, the fully tally not yet in.

The attack occurred around midnight when the IDPs were asleep, according to a witness.

The attack on Mung Lai Hka IDP village has the second highest casualty rate after the military’s aerial attack on Anang Pa village in Hpa-kant township on 24 November last year.

The village is about three miles from the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) headquarters, near the border with China.
