Tornado kills 8 in villages near Myanmar capital

A rare tornado tore through two villages in central Myanmar near the capital Naypyitaw killing eight people and destroying over 200 houses, Associated Press reports

The tornado hit Aung Myin Kone and Tadau villages to the south of Naypyitaw at around 6:10 pm on Friday, the Doh Lewe charity organization told AP. 

A total of 128 people were transported to hospitals.

According to State-run MRTV television, Military Council leader Min Aung Hlaing visited the disaster area on Saturday and provided aid to the residents. The report said that two Buddhist monasteries and a small clinic were among the structures destroyed.
