Two junta soldiers killed in Sagaing Region’s Khin-U Township

One junta soldier was killed and two others were injured when defence forces attacked junta forces near Pintin Village, in the western part of Khin-U Township in Sagaing Region 0n 19 August.

The defence forces attacked a junta military column with two Claymore mines near Pintin Village, as it was returning to Khin-U Township after conducting clearance missions in local villages.

The attack on the junta column of about 100 soldiers happened at 9:00 a.m. and after the mines detonated there was a 15-minute intense exchange of fire between the junta army and the defence forces, according to a company commander from the Myanmar Royal Dragon Army (MRDA), one of the defence forces involved in the attack.

He said: “They carried out two attacks on the military council column, which consisted of 100 soldiers, with two Claymore mines. As a result, one soldier was killed, and two others sustained severe injuries.”

The other defence forces involved in the attack were The Royal Tiger Guerrilla Force and Daung Thwe Ni PDF. All the defence force fighters were able to retreat without suffering any casualties.

According to reports the junta troops are preparing to carry out more clearance operations in the villages of Khin-U Township. Their continuing presence and the threat of violence had caused many of the villagers to flee their homes by 23 August.
