USDP and affiliated parties welcome new election

Twenty-eight political parties, including the Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP), announced on August 4 that they would welcome new elections the military junta will hold.

A joint-statement said, "We welcome the pledge of the chairman of the State Administration Council to hold free and fair elections in order to build a genuine and disciplined multi-party democracy."

The Union Election Commission (UEC) announced on July 26 that the result of elections held on November 8, 2020 were annulled as they were not free and fair.

Of the parties that welcomed the new election, most parties, with the exception of the USDP which won a second majority, did not win a single seat in the 2020 election.
