Drugs worth 20 million kyats seized in Sittwe

Drugs worth over 20 million kyats were seized from two men in Sittwe Township, Arakan State on Tuesday 1 March.
In a joint operation Sittwe District Police Force and Sittwe Township Police Force seized the drugs in in Sat-o Village in Thetkalpyin Village Tract in Sittwe Township at 3.45pm on 1 March, according to Aye Khin Maung, a Sittwe Township Police Inspector.
He said that the drugs seized were: 3,930 ampoules for injection of the opiate Buprenorphine; 230 bottles of the Indian-made cough medicine Phensedyl, which contains codeine and ephedrine; a one litre water bottle full of Phensedyl; 20 empty bottles of Phensedyl; and 1,452 grams of marijuana.
The total cost of the seized drugs was estimated at 20,877,900 kyats.
Mar Mauk Shawyi (age 27) and Zargi Husaung (age 20) were arrested and charged under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law.
Deputy Police Inspector Min Zin Htike is investigating the case.
