The Department of Meteorology and Hydrology (DMH) has issued an alert to people living in low-lying areas along the Chindwin and Ngawun Rivers to be prepared to relocate as the water levels of both rivers have exceeded danger levels, state media reported on 13 July.
The rivers, which have already exceeded what is considered to be dangerous levels in Kani and Monywa, are expected to rise about by another half foot in Kani over the next 24 hours and in Monywa over the next two days.
The Sagaing Region government has temporarily suspended high-speed ferries operating along the Chindwin River according to the Monywa Independent High¬speed Ferry Committee.
