A police post in Nurula, about three miles from Maungtaw, was attacked at about 6 pm yesterday by armed men on motorcycles, resulting in the death of one officer, state media reported on 4 November.
Attackers who arrived on three motorcycles assaulted the two guards of the post with small weapons fire, but members of the post were able to repel the attackers, forcing them to withdraw with injuries and abandon their motorbikes, the report said.
