The US Embassy has welcomed Myanmar State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi’s Report to the Nation in which she expressed her commitment to repatriating refugees from Rakhine State.
In a statement issued on October 13, the embassy had the following to say:
“The U.S. Embassy welcomes State Counselor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi’s remarks and her commitment to repatriate refugees who have fled from Myanmar, prioritize humanitarian assistance to all who need it, and work inclusively with many stakeholders to address the issues in Rakhine State.
“It is a fact that hundreds of thousands of residents of northern Rakhine State have fled to Bangladesh, and tens of thousands more have been displaced to other locations in Rakhine State.  We look forward to continuing to support efforts to restore peace and promote prosperity for all people in Rakhine State and throughout Myanmar.”
