The United Nationalities Democracy Party (UNDP) did not get a permit to set up signboards for the party’s electoral candidates in Kawhmu Township, said party chairperson U David Hla Myint.

The party had sought permission from the Kawhmu Township Municipal Committee on 24 September but the committee replied that they would grant permission only after the COVID-19 ends.

“Without being able to distribute pamphlets and party signboards, we get to a situation in which we must review and decide whether we should contest the general elections or not,” said U David Hla Myint.

National League for Democracy (NLD) chairperson Daw Aung San Suu Kyi won the Lower House seat for Kawmhu constituency in the previous two general elections. She will stand for the Kawmhu constituency in the upcoming general elections 2020, too.
