Union Peace Dialogue Joint Committee (UPDJC) Vice-Chairman Padoh Saw Kwe Htoo Win said that the date for convening Third session of Union Peace Conference or 21st Century Panglong Conference would be fixed within the next few days.
He was speaking at the 11th Coordination Meeting of Liaisons Offices of Ethnic Armed Organizations (EAOs) held at Town Hall of Loikaw, Kayah State.
“The date for convening third session of the Union Peace Conference will be fixed by coming UPDJC meeting and then it will be approved by Joint Implementing Coordination Meeting (JICM).” He said.
The second session of Union Peace Conference was convened on May 24 this year. The government and EAOs agreed to convene this conference every six months.
UPDJC Vice-Chairman Padoh Kwe Htoo Win said, “State Counsellor intended to convene this conference before the end of this year as scheduled.”
But he added that this 21st Panglong Conference could be convened only after holding National-level political dialogues.
All EAOs which signed Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement (NCA) have held national-level political dialogues in their controlled areas except RCSS and ALP.
Padoh Kwe Htoo Win said that only after holding these national-level political dialogues, the points and proposals passed by these meetings could be forwarded and submitted at Union Peace Conference for deliberation.
The first session of 21st Century Panglong Conference was convened at the end of August 2016 and the second session was convened in late May of 2017.
