Former USDP MP appears before court in ARSA case

Pol. Col. Myo Thu Soe from Police True News Information Department confirmed to Mizzima that former MP Aung Zaw Win from Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP) was produced before the Maungdaw court on today, May 21, in connection with allegedly giving financial support to the Arakan Rohingya Solidarity Army (ARSA) a proscribed terrorist organization.
Two ARSA members who were extradited from Bangladesh in 2016 said in statements that Aung Zaw Win gave them financial assistance.
According to a press release issued by Myanmar Police Force on March 1 this year, a police team led by Pol. Maj. Nay Aung Lin arrested Aung Zaw Win on February 28, 2018 while boarding a Bangkok bound plane at Yangon International airport.
A case was registered against Aung Zaw Win at Ngakhura police station in Maungdaw under section 6(1) of Public Property Protection Act, section 19(a) of Arms Act, section 17(1) of Unlawful Associations Act and sections 302/333/307/324/34 of Penal Code.
Aung Zaw Win was a USDP MP of House of Representatives from Maungdaw constituency, Rakhine State last term.
