Kayah State Chief Minister U Khin Maung Oo aka U Bu Reh and four ministers from Kayah State resigned from the ruling Union Solidarity and Development Party [USDP], the Kayah State Transportation and Communication Minister U Chit Hla, one of the resigning ministers, told Mizzima on 13 July.
In addition to U Khin Maung Oo and U Chit Hla, others who resigned from the USDP include the Kayah State Electric Power and Industry Minister U Saw Hu Hu, the Kayah State Bamar National Race Affairs Minister U Sein Oo, and the Kayah State Development Affairs Minister U Aung Naing Oo.
“We want to transfer our positions to the younger generation. For some constituencies, two or three people have put their names into the list of prospective candidates,” said the Kayah State Transportation and Communication Minister U Chit Hla. He also said that many people want to become MPs and everybody has the right to become an MP. “Our party wants to let young people work as MPs. So, we resigned from the party. The Chief Minister resigned from the party on June 27 or 28.”
He says that he currently has no plan to join another political party. But he says he may contest in the election as an independent candidate if citizens want.
Kayah State Electric Power and Industry Minister U Saw Hu Hu said, “I’m calm. No problem. I heard that the Chief Minister would contest in another constituency. As for me, I haven’t joined another political party. And I don’t have any plan to do so.”
U Chit Hla and U Saw Hu Hu said they resigned from the USDP on July 3.
